It was the end of a sustained campaign against the Taliban, a campaign that Simpson had covered from the beginning, despite appalling difficulties and, often, great danger…

When one thinks of classic fairy tales and folklore, it’s usually the enchanted forests of Europe that spring to mind. But in Charles M. Skinner’s Myths and Legends of Our Own Land, the author proves that scrappy upstart America is an equally rich source of myths and legends. This engaging volume brings together dozens of old favorites and more obscure tales, as well…

VICTOR PERAINO was the American keyboard player for Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come, a band often overlooked in the pantheon of UK progressives. Following the group's final album "Journey", Peraino returned to the States, and somehow retained the rights to the group name. Details are sketchy, but according to legend only 100 copies of " No man's Land" were pressed making this a major rarity selling for four figures more often than not. A follow-up EP "We’re Next", contains a new version of the big hit "Fire", was recorded and released in 1981 which almost just as rare. Both releases were put together on this CD. The vinyl format is a limited 500 copies and contains the 7" EP.

A feverish collision of avant-garde aesthetics and grind-house shocks (not to mention a direct influence on Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange), Funeral Parade of Roses takes us on an electrifying journey into the nether-regions of the late-’60s Tokyo underworld. In Toshio Matsumoto’s controversial debut feature, seemingly nothing is taboo: neither the incorporation of visual flourishes straight from the worlds of contemporary graphic-design, painting, comic-books, and animation; nor the unflinching depiction of nudity, sex, drug-use, and public-toilets. But of all the “transgressions” here on display, perhaps one in particular stands out the most: the film’s groundbreaking and unapologetic portrayal of Japanese gay subculture.

Alaska: Saga of a Bold Land - From Russian Fur Traders to the Gold Rush, Extraordinary Railroads, World War II, the Oil Boom, and the Fight Over ANWR by Walter R. Borneman
Harper; 1 edition | February 4, 2003 | English | ISBN: 0060503068 | 624 pages | EPUB/MOBI | 4 MB

The history of Alaska is filled with stories of new land and new riches - and ever present are new people with competing views over how these resources should be used: Russians exploiting a fur empire; explorers checking rival advances; prospectors stampeding to the clarion call of "Gold!"; soldiers battling out a decisive chapter in world war; oil wildcatters looking for a different kind of mineral wealth; and always at the core of these disputes is the question of how the land is to be used and by whom.
