Sweet Smoke was an American music group living and playing in Europe from 1970 till 1974. Originally from N.Y. the group moved to Germany where they lived as a family commune. Within a year of their arrival they recorded their first L.P. Just a Poke which almost immediately turned them into a sort of cult icon of the underground scene which was beginning to emerge as europe's response to the american hippy scene.
An extremely resourceful and creative group, they took the art of spontaneous improvising to new heights, very often involving their audiences in their music. Words like rock jazz, acid rock, raga rock, hard rock, experimental music are only some of the words used to describe their music. Looking back one can see the early roots of fusion and new age music beginning to manifest through them.
Though the basic group consisted of 5 musicians, they came to most of their concerts with their communal family (10-15 of their friends) who helped them on and off stage to create an atmosphere of a musical happening.

I guarantee you'll love it !!

Awesome Mexican jazz-rock. Take, if you will, the brass-infused sound that characterized bands like Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Then, remove defining elements like Terry Kath and classical pretenses…

Beginning with his self-titled debut in 1970, Ry Cooder's records seemed to be as much history lesson as they were entertainment. Not because Cooder was trying to club you over the head with this stuff; he simply gravitated to great songs, no matter what the era or genre. Released in 1978, Jazz seems to be his first conscious attempt at a concept album, in the historical sense. Here he pays homage to some of the early tunes and masters of jazz, ranging from the late 1800s through the "coon songs" of the early part of the next century, to the ragtime and "Spanish" music of Jelly Roll Morton, and the sophistication of cornetist Bix Beiderbecke. The only living artist (at the time of release) who's represented here is the great Bahamian guitarist Joseph Spence, who recorded from the '50s through the '80s, and whose syncopated style was extremely influential in Cooder's own development as a guitarist.

The group's debut album, formed in 1970 by the legendary Alex Harvey before his "famous Sensational Alex Harvey Band." An excellent material, which felt the impact of the second group creator Ray Russell. Music Group - predominantly powerful and dynamic brass-rock with a slight slope in the blues and even jazz great. The CD-reissue added 6 bonuses, 4 of them - the alternative version.

Pekka Pohjola is without doubt one of the greatest bassist/multi-instrumentalist in Europe. He played with Finnish leading jazz-rock band Wigwam, later he collaborated on Mike Oldfield albums and released all the line of solo jazz-rock albums. This second and his last live album contains recordings from his solo concerts in Helsinki and Japan in 1994. Quite long double set sounds fresh and not boring at all - Pekka plays mid tempo very melodic instrumentals with help of keyboard player, drummer and especially guitarist Markku Kanerva. Music there is slightly influenced by Mike Oldfield from early 80-s melodic instrumental rock jazz, not complex, but more soulful, atmospheric and beautiful…

Official Release #57. The third and final live album put together from recordings of Frank Zappa's 1988 concerts, the two-CD set Make a Jazz Noise Here focuses on the composer's instrumental pieces – which are not necessarily jazzy, by the way. As for the three vocal tracks included ("Stinkfoot," "Stevie's Spanking," and "Advance Romance"), they all feature interesting solos. The set presents old favorites, like the medley "Let's Make the Water Turn Black"/"Harry, You're a Beast," "King Kong," and "The Black Page." They are well-performed, but considering the number of versions of each of them available on other recordings, they hardly constitute the main interest of this album.
