Finland’s Ensiferum have long traded in their designation as a “folk metal” group, but on the band’s sixth studio album the metal side of that label is decidedly dominant. And it’s epic metal at that: ‘One Man Army’ blasts forth with symphonic guitar orchestrations, double-time drum gallops, quick-changing dynamics and operatic vocal chorales that would make 19th century homeboys Pacius and Sibelius proud—or roll over in their graves. Long-winded tracks such as “Cry for the Earth Bounds,” are the standouts here, but there are plenty of surprises amidst the bombast—including a disco turn in “Two of Spades” and a guttural cover of “Rawhide” as a bonus track.
"The Dark Epic", the fourth full-length album from ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET — the Swedish band featuring former THE CROWN vocalist Johan Lindstrand — will be released in Europe on February 25, 2011. The CD was recorded at Black Lounge studios in Avesta, Sweden with producer Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY, CARNAL FORGE). The cover artwork, which can be viewed below, was created by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.
