Two records now available as a single CD, these really show off Yo La Tengo's ability to create musical extremes. New Wave Hot Dogs has the firm pop sense and strong songwriting of the debut, but President Yo La Tengo offers up a little more free-form skronk in the ten-minute live version of "The Evil That Men Do," a gloriously squalling, over-the-top crash-and-bash session which proves how liberating and fun sonic dissonance can be. Just in case you don't like that sort of thing, "Evil" also shows up as a straight-ahead folk-rock track. This is a great collection of material that, as well as anything else they have recorded, gets to the heart of what makes this band tick.

Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits Of The '80s was a new wave compilation released by Rhino honoring the music of the 1980's, and this was the sampler disc for the series, released in 1994. Of interest is the version of A Flock Of Seagulls' "I Ran (So Far Away)", which has the ending heard in the video and is different from that in the actual compilation CD series.

This collection of beautiful chamber music with flute is performed by award-winning soloist Alice K. Dade and includes four premiere recordings. These take us from Aaron Jay Kerniss Air, the composers love letter in music, via the youthful memories of Michael Fines Skipping Stones, the Baroque and jazz elements in Noam Elkies E Sonata and the breathtaking mountain scenery of Jennifer Margaret Barkers Na Tri Peathraichan, to the novel and mysterious musical mirroring of Dan Colemans Pavanes and Symmetries, This is a program to tease the imagination and stimulate the senses.

SCREATURE have returned with a vamping new single titled “NORTH OF ORDER” in the run-up to their latest LP ‘Old Hand New Wave.’ The Sacramento based group, consisting of Liz Mahoney (Vocals), Miranda Vera (Drums), Sarah Scherer (Organ), & Chris Orr (Guitar) create blistering deathrock that thrives off forward momentum. “North of Order” contains traces of old-skool sun-bleached goth rock, while exuding a scathing concoction of bare bones rock n’ roll. Through the sheer might of big guitars and a propulsive rhythm section, Screature create a suitable bed for Mahoney’s deadpan meets caterwaul vocal approach.
