Moldau: The Romantic Solo Album” contains some of the most beautiful and well-known pieces from Russia and Bohemia. The composers use their Russian roots to create their own musical language containing elements of emotionally charged joy and the unmistakable feeling of melancholy, which conjures up entire landscapes of musical sounds. With this repertory Xavier de Maistre shows the rich palette of sounds which a harp can accomplish and which is arguably his most distinctive feature.

"This sacd is truly wonderful. Under the leadmanship of Stokowsky all music becomes something extraordinary. Start with the majestic notes of Liszt's Hungarian rhapsody & end with Wagner. And don't forget smetana's moldau! Then I switched to the 3-channel mix on the SACD. The orchestra became much wider & deeper on the soundstage, with the flute solo in the Moldau front & center with greatest clarity & presence…" ~audiophile-audition

A great combination of the great composers. Dvorak's 9th Symphony also known as "From the New World" and Smetana's "Moldau" from his series "My Motherland". The cover above is from the 1993 remastered edition but the rip source is the original 1985 disc.

Another Night was a wholly unexpected album at the time of its release in February of 1975.
The Hollies’ 15th official album, it also marked the return of Allan Clarke to the lineup for the first time since Distant Light in 1971 — and it was, apart from one number, comprised entirely of group originals, a feat of songwriting acumen that the Hollies had not achieved since 1969’s Hollies Sing Hollies (which was sort of a “ringer” in that regard); and just as much to the point, all of the songs and recordings were pretty much first-rate, ranging widely from lyrical pop/rock to harder, edgier, album-oriented sides, with a couple of classic performances among them.

Released in November 1965 as a filler to meet Christmas demand, the Beach Boys convened in the studio with some friends, some acoustic instruments and a batch of cover songs to record this album intended to sound like there was a party going on. The covers include several songs by the Beatles, a Bob Dylan tune, some vintage rock 'n' roll and a version of Barbara Ann by The Regents, a surprise hit single for the Beach Boys that peaked at number two in the US and number three in the UK. This version contains both the mono and stereo mixes of the album.

After Bill Charlap was "discovered" by the Japanese independent Venus Records with his wonderful debut album for the label 'S Wonderful, he signed with Blue Note. Because of the contract terms, Charlap's name can no longer apper prominently on albums he records for Venus. Hence the anonymous moniker "New York Trio". But make no mistake. This is Bill Charlap's trio. And what a trio! Veteran Jay Leonhart's bass sounds deep, lyrical and authoritative, and cutting-edge drummer Bill Stewart's surprisingly traditional drumming brings a unique tension to this group. This unusual trio has recorded six albums for Venus Records at the pace of one each year, and this is their first of the celebrated series. One of the best interpreters of the Great American Songbook, Charlap dazzles us with his beautiful touch and tone, faithful rendering of original melodies and subtle addition of modern sensibilities. Selections are mostly medium to slow tempo ballads. As the title suggests, this is clearly music for the night.
