Blasting out of stereo speakers in the summer of 1969, Brave New World was more fully realized, and rocked harder, than the Steve Miller Band's first two albums. From the opening storm of the uplifting title track to the final scorcher, "My Dark Hour," featuring Paul McCartney (credited as "Paul Ramon"), this recording was the strongest project before Miller's Fly Like an Eagle days.

Analyzing the law of the talion–an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth–literally, William Ian Miller presents an original meditation on the concept of "pay back". Miller's unique theory of justice offers redemption via retaliation. It espouses the view that revenge is a highly structured phenomenon that requires a deep commitment to balance in order to get even in a strict but fair manner. As a result, we find that much of what is assumed to be justice, honor and respect is just a way of providing a means of balancing or measuring valuations. Moreover, according to its biblical roots, the law of the talion implies that the value of an eye can only be matched with another eye, suggesting that body parts are to be considered units of valuation.

Canadian artist, composer and musician Rick Miller is among the veterans of the Canadian music scene, with a recording career that goes all the way back to 1983. "Dark Dreams" is his ninth full-length studio production, and was released in the spring of 2012. Since Rick Miller decided to start exploring progressive rock some 15 years ago, he has produced albums of a particular and rather uniform nature. Generally gentle and dampened in mood, smooth arrangements with dark undercurrents, while occasional use of exotic sounds have added a nice bit of variation to the proceedings. The overall impression has been a type of music closely related to 70's Pink Floyd, but with somewhat more of a tranquil overall sound. His production "Dark Dreams" follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessors. Occasional exotic timbres, atmospheric guitar solos in David Gilmour’s style, gentle symphonic-tinged backdrops and calm, pleasant lead vocals…

The city of St. Louis played host, in the 1920s and 1930s, to one of the most distinctive and vital blues scenes ever documented on record. Like Memphis and Atlanta, St. Louis served as a sort of magnet, attracting musicians from the surrounding hinterlands and providing performance opportunities that were not available out in the country. Many of the St. Louis musicians were transplanted Mississippians, like Charley Jordan, while others, like Clifford Gibson and Teddy Darby, originally hailed from Kentucky. The various early influences that the music of these players displayed ended up coalescing into something that might be called the “St. Louis sound”.
