Ray Russell and Alex Harvey formed Rock Workshop in the early 70's, and it became an expansive band of thirteen musicians, most of which were of the U.K.'s leading young jazz musicians, who created an innovative and technically innovative form of experimental rhythm and blues. Ray Russell recalls that he was playing with Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames and then appeared in the 'Hair' musical together with Alex Harvey's brother Les. It was from this meeting, and Alex Harvey's involvement on backing vocals in the musical, the idea of Rock Workshop was born. The collective's first album was issued in 1971 to great critical acclaim. However, due to their record label wanting to market them as an English 'Blood Sweat & Tears', they never achieved any great commercial success…

Although vintage British psychedelia is viewed by many these days as an Alice In Wonderland-style enchanted garden full of beatific flower children innocently gathering flowers or chasing butterflies, there was always a more visceral element to the scene. Pointedly free of such fripperies as scarlet tunic-wearing gnomes, phenomenal cats and talismanic bicycles, the power trio format that was popularised by the likes of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience spawned a host of imitators. As the Sixties drew to a close and pop evolved slowly but inexorably into rock, psychedelia gave way to a sound that was harder, leaner, heavier, louder.

There is nothing better than wishful thinking. Why is that so really? It only causes heart aches and unnecessary pain as it would never come to be. Even so, to entertain your mind on something, particularly with a zero chance of falling into place, is rather the source of hope. We are living in a crazy world and everything can happen. The running Hard Rockin’ foursome of ELECTRIC GUITARS thought that it would be nice to share one of their aspirations for their local scene in Denmark. That is highly considerate of them. Therefore, they decided to write about and call their newly released album based on their wish, “Rock N’ Roll Radio”, and on the the back of the local Mighty Music. You are probably thinking to yourself why Radio in 2017? From my end, I believe that it is the best point of entry, and you have to start from the basics.

It was late August in 1969 when Phil May and Wally Waller were flown to St. Tropez by Philippe DeBarge (an eccentric French wealthy playboy), and taken to the DeBarge family estate - a magnet for the rich and famous of the era, from politicians to film and rock stars. DeBarge had serious money and wanted to make a serious album, with him as the front man. He'd done his research. He knew exactly who he wanted to make that album with. They were The Pretty Things.

Rock is dead, long live rock! It’s been said before and will be said again. The truth is that rock music is and always will be here to stay, especially when a band like Carousel Vertigo creates, feels and plays it like it does. "Revenge Of Rock And Roll". The title says it all and the second album by Carousel Vertigo makes a clear musical statement about a trend-proof musical genre, about its importance, now and always, to the loyal millions who will forever support it – and about how that shit just never grows old, say what you will about it.
