Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic: The new concert series in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic picks up on Norman Granz' ground-breaking 1944 idea for Jazz at the Philharmonic . The Berlin Philharmonic Foundation was of the opinion that jazz deserved more attention, and when ACT-owner Siggi Loch remembered the original "Jazz at the Philharmonic" concert series, he proposed such a concept for Berlin. It became immediately apparent on 11 December 2012, at the opening night of "Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic", that jazz is a welcome guest.

The music on this album is very communicative, melodic, easy-to-listen. Songs comprise original comnpositions but also improvisations on medieval song, Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit or Komeda's Svantetic. The music is very coherent, rewarding and delivered with best possible quality. And in Poland it sold like hell reaching in a span of weeks double platinium status. Excellent proposal for all who like beautiful music that has true jazz heart, free and improvising, but still is closer to popular tastes rather than avant-garde. (Source: kochamjazz.blogspot.com)

With Classical 90s Dance this reserved German has come full circle, as he puts it. “‘Das Boot’ was originally a piece for strings. But when we recorded it with U96 in 1991, I had neither the knowledge nor the tools to record with strings. The fact that I’ve now been able to combine orchestral music with my dance roots while recording Classical 90s Dance rounds out my entire oeuvre. People can finally understand why Christensen spent ten years on orchestral music.” Alex Christensen created the 49-member Berlin Orchestra, a gathering of the capital’s best orchestral musicians, specifically for this album. And he hired very young female vocalists exclusively, with the plan to revitalize a selection of the best techno dance tracks of the 90s with a modern sensibility.

A blues guitar introduces the melody, restrained, elegiac and yet full of energy. A clear, female voice takes over, its power potentiated by its uncanny serenity. A piano gathers together the theme one more time before all of them, joined by an additional trio, take it through a mightily dynamic loop until it tapers out almost to nothing in the end. 'Ingen Vinner Frem Til Den Evige Ro' is the name of the old Norwegian church song that Knut Reiersrud, Solveig Slettahjell, Bugge Wesseltoft and In The Country transform so fascinatingly into a modern Nordic hymn in the sold-out Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie.

Leszek Mozdzer - already a star in his homeland, and in Europe the most important Polish jazz musician of his generation after Tomasz Stańko, the 42 year-old pianist from Danzig is the embodiment of the current journey of European jazz. "Polska" would not sound the way it does, if it had not been born in a trio with the Swedish bassist Lars Danielsson and the Israeli percussionist and singer Zohar Fresco. Unperceived here, these three have already recorded two albums in Poland that went double platinum (just like the recent "Komeda"). Now, no matter where you are, with "Polska" you can discover one of the most fascinating and extraordinary trios in the world with Leszek Mozdzer as its creative mastermind.
