Hollywood 1927.

A spinoff of its parent magazine, Classic Rock Presents Prog takes a look at progressive music and the artists who weave them together. Each issue takes a soul-searching foray into the hearts and minds of the heroes of rock, reviewing both new and old releases. Building upon the history of some of the most genre-defining pieces ever devised and those who followed who continue to refine, revolutionise and completely discard the formulas of those who came before. Reflecting on the proud genesis of this unexpected genre, Classic Rock Presents Prog is an able tutor for those in the dark about the evolution of progressive music, and a tonic for existing fans.

Director and violinist Alexander Janiczek leads principal players from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in this beautifully intimate recording. Mozart's writing allows each player to shine and demonstrates the depth of talent within the ensemble, illustrating why this orchestra has had such extensive success with its previous Mozart recordings. The works on this disc are full of well-known tunes which demonstrate Mozart's trademark melodic beauty. Acclaimed oboist, Robin Williams, gives a dazzling performance of the composer's great masterpiece. This is the fourteenth recording in the orchestra's hugely successful partnership with Linn Records, a series that includes the award-winning Mozart Symphonies recordings with the late Sir Charles Mackerras.

Fulminant, diverse and truly massive is the performance of the Berlin heavy-psychedelic quartet Samsara Blues Experiment (SBE) on their second album "Revelation & Mystery". The successor of their cult debut album "Long Distance Trip" was kept more compact and tightly arranged without having lost the bands enthusiasm, originality and passion for each note.On their quest for perfection SBE created a guitar-driven masterpiece, containing 7 songs in 47 minutes with no weak moments.
The spectrum of this musical journey ranges from grim 70s to early 80s Heavy/Space Metal roots to Classic Rock with flashes of Progressive Blues and the spherical sitar sounds of the 12 minute final blast…

This Italian band's sole legacy is a wonderful album of pure symphonic prog dominated by flute, with strong classical influences and a touch of jazz.
Buon Vecchio Charlie was formed in Rome in 1970 with a five-piece line-up featuring, along with Calabrò, Centofanti and Sangiorgio, bass player Walter Bernardi and percussionist Carlo Visca. After some first demos they could record with the new six-piece line-up the tracks for an album in Suono label's (of Opus Avantra fame) recording studio near Venice in 1972, with the help of Venetian Power guitarist Claes Cornelius, also an important session man at the time…
