Larry Young's third and final Prestige recording (reissued in the OJC series on CD) concludes his early period; he would next record as a leader two and a half years later on Blue Note, by which time his style would be much more original. For his 1962 outing, Young is joined by the obscure tenor Bill Leslie, guitarist Thornel Schwartz and drummer Jimmie Smith for some original blues and two standards ("I Found a New Baby" and "Sweet Lorraine"). Nothing all that substantial occurs, but fans of Jimmy Smith will enjoy the similar style that Larry Young had at the time.

This is one of the most spectacular collections of high-quality, virtuoso acoustic guitar playing ever released. With Larry Coryell, the soul of the music NEVER gets lost in the technique and there is no better demonstration of Coryell at his best than this record. Coryell's musicianship, at this point in his career, was at an extremely high level and some of these tunes may take some extra listening to fully appreciate; but once you get used to them, you can't get enough.

The fifth volume in the Café del Mar series continues Ibiza legend José Padilla's wide-ranging look at what can possibly make up a dance album: a track from Indian film soundtracker AR Rahman, a light dubby trip through Prozac Muzak from Levitation, the obligatory Kruder & Dorfmeister remix (an excellent remake of Lamb's "Transfatty Acid"), plus a host of Ibizan house touchstones (Larry Heard, Ballistic Brothers, Electribe 101, Salt Tank).

SUPERB 1973 BROADCAST RECORDING FROM JAZZ LEGEND LARRY CORYELL & 11th HOUSE In the world of virtuoso guitar, few can parallel the sheer skill and versatility of Larry Coryell. Born in Galveston, Texas, on 2nd April 1943, Coryell grew up in Seattle where he first took up the piano and later guitar. Heavily influenced by both jazz musicians - such as John Contrane and Wes Montgomery - and more contemporary rock artists - including Bob Dylan, The Byrds and The Beatles - Coryell endeavoured to blend the two styles into his own technique.

Larry Young (1940-1979) started off in the early 60s as a soul-jazz organist, and the three albums included on this 2-CD set Testifying, Young Blues, and Street Groove , are his first as a leader. Recorded in 1960 and 1962 for the New Jazz/Prestige label, they document a period when the 20 year-old organist was starting to establish a name for himself in the jazz scene. On a set of warmly swinging, thoroughly grooving performances, Young is in an astounding, persuasively blues-tinged mood, while guitarist Thornel Schwartz and drummer Jimmie Smith are the personification of steady and sympathetic support, consistently augmented with the addition of bassist Wendell Marshall in Young Blues.

You may know organist Larry Young from his work in The Tony Williams Lifetime band (with John McLaughlin) and later with Jimi Hendrix, and Carlos Santana or you may just be hip to his Blue Note 1960's years. Nonetheless, you would certainly be surprised to learn that he lived to be just 38 years old, passing away in 1978. As the philosopher Lao Tzu said, "The flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long"

Reissue. Features the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD player) and the latest 24bit 192kHz remastering. An incredible album from the man that changed the way the world hears the Hammond! This album was Larry Young's first for Blue Note – and it's a mindblowing batch of tunes that push the organ into realms that had never been heard of in jazz. Young's got a real penchant for a modal groove – no doubt inspired by his friend and sometimes collaborator John Coltrane – and he's working here with a totally hip group that includes Sam Rivers, Grant Green, and Elvin Jones.
