Primitive Man is an album by the Australian synthpop band Icehouse, released in September 1982. In January 1982, Icehouse founder Iva Davies started recording Primitive Man essentially as a solo project, it was co-produced with Keith Forsey who later worked with Simple Minds. Forsey supplied additional percussion; Davies supplied vocals, lead guitar, keyboards (Sequential Circuits Prophet-5), bass guitar and programmed the Linn drum machine. Released as an Icehouse album, Primitive Man reached #3 on the National album charts and provided their international breakthrough single, "Hey Little Girl" which peaked at #7 in Australia, #2 in Switzerland, #5 in Germany, Top 20 in UK, Sweden and Netherlands, and #31 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart…

This remastered Australian edition contains five additional songs. This was Iva Davies return from courtroom hell with former label Chrysalis. Someone should annoy Davies more often, because the result is the most energizing, electric music of his career. From their opener, Icehouse – essentially the trio of Davies, Paul Wheeler, and David Chapman – treat us to a frenzy of guitars, loops, filmic links, and drumming likened to John Bonham. Though lyrically weak, the title song bounces along in jolly mode. Bowie affiliations come again in the form of "Satelite" and "Stolen Guitar." "Judas" and "Cadillac" are more stodgy but still rock; the latter is similar to the more recent Suede material. The album initially came with a computer disc – the first interactive disc in Australian rock history – while others came as standard with the Spin One EP attached, which leads nicely to its parent album.

This is a prime example of how music was rising to its zenith of production and creativity. The music clip of "Crazy " was, at the time, a milestone in video history. It was shot in one long sequence with stunts perfectly timed and walking and posing etc. Russell Mulcahy did a superb job shooting this and for the 1970's, ahead of it's time. We've all seen imitations, this is where it started. The writing and singing matches anything of the time and leaves some of the manufactured electronic assisted sounds of the 21st century luffing in the wind. Not just nostalgia talking here, this is listening to quality which is rare now. The music industry is industry first, music second. This is from creative times.
