Hayes Carll hasn't been resting on his laurels since topping critics polls and winning awards for his 2008 album, Trouble in Mind. Instead, he's been on the road nearly nonstop with his band, "The Poor Choices" blasting through honky tonks and rock clubs across the U.S. and beyond. Along the way, he's been inspired to write a crop of new tunes that the acclaimed songwriter says are "a layman's take on our country - a snapshot of America in some small way." The result: the sharply drawn collection KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories), his second release from Lost Highway. KMAG YOYO is pronounced "kay-mag, yo-yo."

Country music mega-star Kenny Chesney returns with his highly anticipated new album, ‘Cosmic Hallelujah’. The album magnifies the euphoria and rush that defines Chesney as an artist, a writer and a live performer. Beyond the strong emphasis on rhythm and grooves, the four-consecutive ACM and four-time CMA ‘Entertainer of the Year’ worked to craft an album that marks the best part of being alive and the way to embrace the moment and appreciate the smallest things that often get lost in life as it hurtles by.

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Comes with a descripton in Japanese. A real gem from Woody Shaw's greatest period – a very hip sextet session, recorded with Hayes, Cook, Shaw, and a rhythm section that includes Ronnie Matthews on piano, Stafford James on bass, and Guilhermo Franco on percussion. Tracks are long, and stretch out in that searching, modal style that Shaw was using a lot at the time – and although the Hayes/Cook team are listed as the leaders on the set, the record clearly owes a lot to Shaw's influence and style. A wonderful record that we just don't turn up often enough! Titles include "Ichi Ban", "Book's Bossa", "Pannonica", "Brothers & Sisters", and a great take on "Moontrane".

Louis Hayes, one of the chief architects of modern jazz drumming, was the rhythmic drive for historic recordings by Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley, Oscar Peterson, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon and McCoy Tyner. When he reformed the Jazz Communicators, the band that he co-founded in the late 1960s with Freddie Hubbard and Joe Henderson, Hayes purposefully deviated from a conventional quintet lineup by featuring vibraphone and tenor saxophone out front. It’s the esteemed pair of Steve Nelson and Abraham Burton respectively, and their chemistry with Hayes, pianist David Bryant and bassist Dezron Douglas makes Return of the Jazz Communicators an inspired and rewarding set.

On her debut, this Austin country-rocker sings Texas-steel tunes and roisterous rockers with spirited assurance, but there's a natural tremble in her voice that makes her sound dangerous yet vulnerable. Willis is one of the few country singers with the disarming beauty to become a true sex symbol, and if she's the feminine response to all the hat acts, that's fine.– by Brian Mansfield

Having previously covered the likes of Ron Sexsmith, Dan Zanes, and Annie Lennox, Curtis Stigers has never been one to rely solely on the Great American Songbook classics, but Let's Go Out Tonight, his tenth studio album, and seventh since his effortless jazz-man reinvention, arguably features the most eclectic selection of material in his career. Not that it's entirely apparent on first listen. Its ten tracks may take in everything from wistful alt-country (Hayes Carll's "Chances Are"), vintage Stax soul (Eddie Floyd's "Oh, How It Rained"), and even atmospheric dream pop (the Blue Nile's title track), but their similar organic production and achingly slow tempos mean it takes some time for their charms to sink in.
