Label: Carol Bach-y-Rita / Arugula Records | Tracks: 11 | Rls.date: 2016

Listening to vocalist CAROL BACH-Y-RITA sing, it comes as no surprise that she’s also a dancer. Her singing has a supple fluidity that suggests a body in motion. On her newest CD, MINHA CASA / my house, she performs re-imagined standards and original songs that celebrate both well- and lesser-known Brazilian rhythms. Bach-y-Rita’s band features stellar musicians who are leaders in their own right, including LARRY KOONSE on guitar, BILL CANTOS on piano, JOHN LEFTWICH on bass, and MIKE SHAPIRO on drums and percussion. They are joined on one track by Brazilian percussion master DUDU FUENTES. According to Bach-y-Rita, “I wanted to work with musicians who really know how to play both straight-ahead jazz and Brazilian music. There are a lot of great musicians who can play one or the other, but I’m lucky to work with bandmates who can soar in both styles.”

Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
This is a very serious, sad and emotional record, and it made a very big impression on me. The songs have stunning melodies, and the overall feeling is very psychedelic. The dreamlike surrealistic solutions are also done with a good style, and the band haven't gave room for any silly junkie stupidities, as some psychedelic artists sadly have done. The amplified acoustic guitars are often processed trough an echo reverbs, and there are also some great moody electric guitar solos to be heard.

Carol Frazier - Life's A Ride (2000)  Music

Carol Frazier - Life's A Ride (2000)
Vocal Jazz | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 58 min | 136 MB
Label: Hapi Skratch Records | Rel: 2000

A voice that has a depth and strength below the surface, Carol Frazier doesn't get started on the right track. The spoken-word verses on "Break My Fall" heighten the vocals during the jazzy chorus, but dampen what might have been an improved beginning. Steve Boyton's guitar solo and dexterity compensates partially for the wrong musical foot, though. Much more polished and swinging are "Holy Roller Swing" and "Hypocrite," both having their hip horn sections.
