The author of a book presenting a grammatical analysis of a phenomenon accepts, for that phenomenon, the proposition that its understanding depends upon apprehension of its inner structure. Constituents must be identified, and a framework then must be presented in which these constituents are sensibly and systematically interrelated. It seems only fair that the author accept the same proposition, and follow the same procedures, in dealing with her or his readers.
