The very handsome man sitting on Alice Dougherty's sofa and asking for her advice on none other than Hayes Bradford—the widowed father she'd once come so close to marrying. It seemed like yesterday that Hayes had broken her heart, yet it had been twelve long years since she'd seen him and his adorable little son.

Guitarist Arthur Adams is primarily known as a session player, not to mention the bandleader at friend and collaborator B.B. King's Los Angeles blues club. On his first solo album in 20 years, Adams's guitar work is sure and deft, with the confidence that comes from years of experience. He's got a great voice, too, with an appealing smoothness that sounds fresh and contemporary, and that never lacks for expressiveness. The songwriting on Back on Track is mature, whether Adams is tackling the modern breakup (complete with lawyers and court settlements) in "Who Does She Think She Is" or exploring the complications of personal devotion in "Backup Man." He rocks out too, especially on the sensual "Honda Betty" (complete with horns) or the strong, driving "Jumpin' the Gun."

When UK chart-toppers Brian Poole And The Tremeloes parted company in 1966, few would have wagered that the backing group would outdo the lead singer. Remarkably, however, the relaunched Tremeloes went on to eclipse not only Poole, but the original hitmaking act. At the time of their reconvening in 1966, the lineup was comprised of Rick West (b. Richard Westwood, 7 May 1943, Dagenham, Essex, England; guitar), Alan Blakley (b. 1 April 1942, Dagenham, Essex, England, d. 1995; rhythm guitar), Dave Munden (b. 2 December 1943, Dagenham, Essex, England; drums) and Alan Howard (b. 17 October 1941, Dagenham, Essex, England; bass)…

While Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke left Free for Swan Song/Atlantic's Bad Company, their ex-bandmate, the late Paul Kossoff, put together another group on Atlantic which sounded like…you guessed it…Bad Company. Terry Wilson-Slesser could easily be mistaken for Rodgers on so much of this album, be it the song "Jason Blue" or "It's a Long Way to the Top." This material is terrific sleeper stuff for the '70s hard rock genre, before Foreigner made that whole world much slicker…
