When Carl Palmer was unable to join Keith Emerson and Greg Lake for a mid-‘80s ELP reunion, his resourceful cohorts drafted veteran British skin-basher Cozy Powell, who had played with Jeff Beck, Rainbow, and many others. Thus constituted, Emerson, Lake & Powell released a self-titled album in 1986 and embarked on a tour. The Sprocket Sessions were originally released as a pair of bootlegs, one consisting of the band's studio rehearsals for the tour, and one containing a concert recording from Lakeland, FL. Endorsed by the band and cleaned up from an original master, this disc consists of the former.

Never really liked the Emerson,Lake and Powell album so I'm quite surprised how good this is. Cozy Powell (RIP) briefly replaced Palmer in the eighties incarnation of ELP but was always going to struggle to make the drum stool his own.Palmer after all was one of the best drummers in the seventies rock scene. Powell was without question a great heavy rock drummer but you would not expect symphonic prog to be his forte.

Emerson, Lake & Powell is the only studio album recorded by the ELP offshoot band of the same name. It was recorded in 1985 and released in 1986 on Polydor Records. However, two further albums comprising rehearsals and live material were subsequently issued in 2003 (see band article for details). The album's cover graphic is based on the corporate logo used in the 1930's by the German cigarette manufacturer, Haus Bergmann.

ELPowell emerged when a mid-1980s reunion was sidelined due to Carl Palmer's contractual obligation to Asia. So, with Palmer's blessing, Emerson and Lake recruited fellow British skin basher Cozy Powell. Powell had worked with several popular hard rock acts (from The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow & Black Sabbath) and had a noticeably harder and more pronounced percussive approach.

EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (ELP) reformed for the first time since 1998 to headline the High Voltage Festival on Sunday July 25th 2010. 2010 marked the 40th anniversary of the creation of Emerson Lake and Palmer, the band that was formed from King Crimson, The Nice and Atomic Rooster. New title in the excellent value "Booksets" range. These are limited edition, multi-CD sets packaged in DVD sized Ecol-books, containing the contents of rare, expensive & hitherto unavailable box sets. Finally, EL&P has a retrospective to match the band's music. 5 CDs, basically chronologically arranged. The set includes unheard mixes and an excellent unreleased 'Tarkas'-era track that would have benefitted that album greatly. After a raft of chances missed where presenting the 'band that never ends' were concerned, the record label has, as this review's title says, at last made up for it all. Anyone hearing these CDs will be unable to laugh at the band or take them lightly. Emerson, Lake and Palmer truly were the greatest progressive act on earth. And, now, here's the proof.

Import-only three CD set containing a trio of classic albums from one of Prog Rock's biggest acts. This set includes the albums Live In Poland, Live At The Royal Albert Hall and Live At Isle Of Wight Festival 1970.
Isle of Wight Festival 1970: Recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 and released on CD in 1997. At this concert ELP played Pictures at an Exhibition.
Live at the Royal Albert Hall: Known for their on-stage energy and full-force musical prowess, Live at the Royal Albert Hall is the farthest from disappointment a live album can get. Each member of ELP exhibits his individual talents on this astonishing audio spectacle that doesn't let up at any point. Spearheading the 11 songs on the album that runs almost 70 minutes is keyboardist Keith Emerson, whose earsplitting synthesizer rumbles and squeals with devastating vigor.
