Drifting Sun are known for the music crafted with precision, attention to details and a refined taste for beauty. The band’s newest record ‘Safe Asylum’ has all these qualities, and a lot more. ‘Safe Asylum’ is full of surprises and breathtaking moments of enchanting beauty. The record is a classical grower - you need time to fully get into it, discover all its hidden secrets and treats, fall in love with it. But once you get into the depths of ‘Safe Asylum’, it won’t let you go. That’s one of the qualities that makes the album so magnetic. ‘Safe Asylum’ has a grandeur and a dignity of a prog rock record made with care, ingenuity and taste. A combination of delicacy and power is noble-sounding: aristocratic at some times and rebellious at others…

This lost gem was originally issued as a 12” LP in 1957 by the Aladdin subsidiary label Score, and long unavailable on any format. In addition to the original masterpiece, this remastered collector’s edition contains 15 bonus tracks, consisting of hard-to-find sides issued by different labels, such as Aladdin, Ace, and King Records during the Fifties and early Sixties. Highlights include two of Brown’s seasonal-themed blues songs; the celebrated “Merry Christmas Baby” and “Please Come Home for Christmas.” These sensational recordings constitute a treasure of incalculable value, which would form the basis of Charles Brown’s legend and secure his reputation as one of the greatest figures of piano blues.

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Drummer Eddie Marshall never cut many albums as a leader, but we'll always love him for this one – a sublime San Francisco 70s session that features tremendous vibes from the great Bobby Hutcherson! But actually, the whole group's great – and also includes George Cables on piano, James Leary on bass, and Manny Boyd on tenor and soprano sax – who works alongside Hutcherson's vibes with some of the same soulful currents as Harold Land from earlier years! The tunes are well-paced – mostly by Marshall, with a slight undercurrent of spirituality – and a lyrical beauty that almost has Bobby in "Little B's Poem" territory at times.

Posthumous reconstructions of unfinished works are inherently dangerous, principally because even the most capable scholar or producer can only make, at best, an educated guess as to how the work in question would have been completed. Indeed, in dealing with some such pieces, you're sometimes lucky to get the work of the artist claimed (the Mozart Symphony No. 37 is a case in point – it doesn't exist; the piece once labeled Symphony No. 37 and attributed to Mozart is now known to have been authored by Michael Haydn); and while there's no question that the songs on this CD were recorded by Jimi Hendrix, even the people who worked on the sides with him can't say which songs would have ended up on the finished version of First Rays of the New Rising Sun (assuming that he even ended up using that title for the album), or what embellishments he would have added to any of them in the course of completing them…

The characteristics of Xingyi Qi Qiang (Rare Spear): Qi Qiang is one of the excellent Wushu weapon routines, which was introduced to Tangshan from Sun Shi Men (Sun-style Wushu School) in Baoding, Hebei. Its theory is similar with Xingyi Quan, also called Xingyi Zhuan Huan Qi Qiang. When practicing, you need to stick the spear to the body, with neat movement, and entire strength, many changes. The routine is continual, the spear technique is changing all the time. Move with the spirit, energy and strength together, very fearfully. Turn over up and down, straightly come and go. Twine, grab, snap, hook, chop, parry, smash, cover, drill, wrap, stir, and prick, fearful techniques. Practice frequently, it can strengthen your Kungfu.

Following solo releases by both members (synthesist & Hypnos founder Mike Griffin, and guitar experimentalist David Tollefson), sonic adventurers Viridian Sun follow up their daring, acclaimed debut, SOLAR NOISE. PERIHELION goes in a slightly new sonic direction, but retains the intuitive, improvisational approach. The focus remains on creating highly visual and evocative soundscapes, an ever-evolving construction of loops and drifting background textures, both hypnotic and beautiful.

For almost a century, writers such as Ralph Ellison, Michael Ondaatje, and Ishmael Reed have expressed an affinity for jazz, hearing the music as a model for writing. Michael Jarrett examines their work and the work of others who have brought jazz into language, pushing "interpretation" into the realm of "invention."
