The Doors, one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of the 1960s, were formed in Los Angeles, California. The 1967 release of The Doors was the first in a series of top ten albums in the US, followed by Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), Absolutely Live (1970) and L.A. Woman (1971), with 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. Although The Doors' active career ended in 1973, their popularity has persisted. According to the RIAA, they have sold 32.5 million certified units in the US. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The Doors were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold LPs. In 1993, The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The music of The Lord of the Rings film series was composed, orchestrated, conducted and produced by Howard Shore. Shore wrote many hours of music for The Lord of the Rings, 10 hours of which have been released in the Complete Recordings CD/DVD boxed sets. Additional music, including alternate and unused compositions, was released with the book The Music of the Lord of the Rings. Shore composed the music in an emotional, operatic way, threading through the scores over 90 identified leitmotifs, which are categorized by the Middle-earth cultures to which they relate. The scores for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King won Academy Awards in 2002 and 2004. The latter film also won an Oscar statuette for Best Song, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

This CD contains a very listenable collection of songs, originally on two separate albums made by the Butts Band, paced by ex-Doors Robby Krieger and John Densmore. Robby's post-Doors work is often marked by eclecticism, and the hard and soft rock here is accompanied by or infused with blues, some soul, and a bit of reggae. Still, while almost all the tracks are decent, there is little that is outstanding. Jess Roden's vocals and rhythm guitar highlight the earlier tracks (1-8), reflecting the first album's British lineup save the two ex-Doors. The second group of songs was made by an entirely American outfit. Although the Butts Band's eponymous first album was generally seen as superior, the second album, "Here and Now," had a number of pretty tracks, on display here. Despite the relatively short time after Morrison's death (the Butts Band recorded in the mid-70s), and as you can obviously tell by now, these recordings do not sound anything like the Doors.

By 1969, the Doors had found themselves at the forefront of a movement that consisted of a generation of discontents. Operating against a backdrop of the Vietnam War and of social unrest and change in the USA, the Doors were hip, they were dangerous, they were anti-establishment, anti-war and they were hated by middle-America. Featuring exclusive interviews with surviving band members Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, Robby Kreiger and their closest colleagues and collaborators, along with exclusive performances, archive footage and examination of the original multi-track recording tapes with producer Bruce Botnick, this film tells the amazing story of landmark album LA Woman by one of the most influential bands on the planet.
