This book is disarmingly honest in revealing the highs and lows in the career of an exceptional neurosurgeon. God-like status often proves difficult for surgeons to handle, both within their professional careers and in private lives, and Henry Marsh does an outstanding job in examining many of the issues through the use of finely crafted case-histories.

In the midterm election year 2010, recession-battered Americans expressed their discontent with a simultaneously overreaching and underperforming government by turning the formerly Democratically controlled House over to the Republicans.

David is also still mourning his beloved wife who died several years ago, and he is slowly getting involved with a young doctor who reciprocates his feelings. However, David's problems in the ER, and his lingering feelings for his wife, interfere with his ability to commit himself to a new relationship. There are two obvious weaknesses in "Do No Harm." First, it is difficult to believe that a man as mentally unbalanced as Clyde would be capable of carrying out so many carefully planned and even sophisticated attacks. Second, the last quarter of the book is overly long and repetitious.

The book is based on comparative case studies of six countries (Afghanistan, Bolivia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nepal, Rwanda and Sierra Leone) and a comprehensive literature review. This is an important source to guide external engagement in situations of fragility and conflict, both at the policy and the field level.
