Donizetti composed Pia de’ Tolomei during the summer and autumn of 1836 in Naples, where he was living at the time. In December he set out for Venice, where the premiere was planned for February the next year at the Teatro La Fenice He travelled via Livorno and Genoa but when he arrived in Genoa he was met by the news that the theatre had been destroyed by fire on the night of 12/13 December. He realized that there was a great risk that the premiere would be jeopardized. However the production was moved to Teatro Apollo and the premiere took place on 18 February 1837 as planned. Fanny Persiani, who had been the first Lucia di Lammermoor a couple of years earlier, took the title role. The opera was not an immediate success and Donizetti reworked it twice. The second time was for Naples in 1838, where the censors enforced important changes and a happy ending. The present production is based on the critical edition published by Ricordi, where the original tragic finale is restored…

This programme dedicated to Joaquín Rodrigo includes a pair of his landmark works, recorded in the late 1970s by Spanish 10-string guitarist Narciso Yepes working with two different orchestras led by García Navarro. The Fantasía is a 1978 performance from the English Chamber Orchestra while the Concierto de Aranjuez is from a 1979 recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Both orchestras bring out the best in Rodrigo’s music, with its astounding ability to evoke feelings and visualizations of rural Spain and its romantic past.

New version of the Paco de Lucía Integral, 27 CDs his complete work remastered. "Cositas Buenas", his last album, comes as a new in this new Integral. Now in a new economic format. This collection is a unique tour of the work of Paco de Lucia from 1964 to 2004. Spanish classical music had always aroused profound interest in Paco de Lucía. First came the album Lorca (1967), the records of Andalusian and Iberoamerican classics (65-69), afterwards came his magnificent work with Falla (1968) and from 1991 we must add this Concierto de Aranjuez and three pieces from the ‘Suite Iberia’ by Albeniz. His pledge here is clear: to offer out of the most profound respect a new perspective on the Classical Spanish canon, in Flamenco.

"Described by the Boston Globe's Michael Manning as a musician who plays "beyond virtuosity," guitarist Sharon Isbin has been a consistent challenge for critics, who struggle to find the right superlative that would do justice to her exquisite playing. "In her hands," wrote Anne Midgette in The New York Times, "the guitar takes on the precision of a diamond, each note a clear, shining facet that catches, prism-like, a glimpse of the spectrum." In essence, a performance by Isbin is like a painting by Vermeer: a formally impeccable and inexhaustible work of art."

Capella de Ministrers is an early and medieval music ensemble formed in 1987 in Valencia, Spain by its director, the Valencian musicologist Carles Magraner. Capella de Ministrers is recovering the musical heritage from an astounding and up-to-date perspective:early music combined with the latest technology. This first album of the trilogy dedicated to Ramon Llull , "Conversion, study and contemplation," illustrates the youth of Ramon Llull, devoted to sensual pleasures to profane love and the cultivation of the troubadour lyric, seen through the prism of the convert who has left the vanities of the world.

This is a Great Classical piece for the lovers of classical, as well as the ones who may hate it. These Adagios CDs get beter and better each time there is a new release. I must warn you there some good as well as some bad ones. There is a certain Adagio flavor for everyones.
