According to Billboard chart statistics, Chicago is second only to the Beach Boys as the most successful American rock band of all time, in terms of both albums and singles. Judged by album sales alone, as certified by the R.I.A.A., the band does not rank quite so high, but it is still among the Top Ten best-selling U.S. groups ever. If such statements of fact surprise, that's because Chicago has been singularly underrated since the beginning of its long career, both because of its musical ambitions to the musicians, rock is only one of several styles of music to be used and blended, along with classical, jazz, R&B, and pop and because of its refusal to emphasize celebrity over the music.

In 1967, Chicago musicians Walter Parazaider, Terry Kath, Danny Seraphine, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Robert Lamm, and Peter Cetera formed a group with one dream, to integrate all the musical diversity from their beloved city and weave a new sound, a rock 'n' roll band with horns. Their dream turned into record sales topping the 100,000,000 mark, including 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 32 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.

Here's my third and final upload by this much underated tenor player. It's from 1966 and was reissued in Japan some years ago. Good Stuff! Saxophonist Dick Morrissey towered among the finest and most innovative British jazz musicians of his generation when he teamed with guitarist Jim Mullen to spearhead the UK fusion movement of the 1970s. Born May 9, 1940 in Horley, England, Morrissey taught himself the clarinet at age 16, later mastering all of the saxophones and the flute. In his late teens, while apprenticing as a jeweler, he played with the Original Climax Jazz Band, followed by a stint in trumpeter Gus Galbraith's septet, where alto saxophonist Pete King introduced Morrissey to his chief inspiration, Charlie Parker.

A world-caliber collective of women working in a class almost entirely their own, Hear in Now is a string trio that composes and improvises fluidly between free jazz and contemporary classical, folk music and avant-garde. Originally banded by a commission from WomaJazz in Italy, Mazz Swift (violin), Tomeka Reid (cello) and Silvia Bolognesi (double bass) came together from their homes in New York, Chicago and Siena IT to not only perform but also meet for the first time on the same date in 2009. In the 8 years since that first encounter, Hear in Now has become a rare egalitarian ensemble for the three highly active musicians, who are as often singular band leaders as they are sidewomen. In those respects, their compiled musical CV is as impressive as it is diverse – including collaborations, performances and recordings with Anthony Braxton, Nicole Mitchell, Butch Morris, William Parker, Common, Jay-Z and Kanye West – and as a unit they comprised ½ of the Roscoe Mitchell Sextet for several European shows in early 2017. Not Living in Fear, their 2nd studio album, was engineered by Griffin Rodriguez (Icy Demons, Beirut, Modest Mouse) and Alex Inglizian (Experimental Sound Studio), and features guest vocals by Chicago jazz legend Dee Alexander.

The Chicago Transit Authority recorded this double-barreled follow-up to their eponymously titled 1969 debut effort. The contents of Chicago II (1970) underscore the solid foundation of complex jazz changes with heavy electric rock & roll that the band so brazenly forged on the first set. The septet also continued its ability to blend the seemingly divergent musical styles into some of the best and most effective pop music of the era. One thing that had changed was the band's name, which was shortened to simply Chicago to avoid any potential litigious situations from the city of Chicago's transportation department – which claimed the name as proprietary property. Musically, James Pankow (trombone) was about to further cross-pollinate the band's sound with the multifaceted six-song "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon." The classically inspired suite also garnered the band two of its most beloved hits – the upbeat pop opener "Make Me Smile" as well as the achingly poignant "Color My World" – both of which remained at the center of the group's live sets.

If You Leave Me Now is a compilation album by the rock band Chicago. In an attempt to capitalize on the band's second #1 single ("Hard to Say I'm Sorry") as well as its Top 40 follow-up ("Love Me Tomorrow"), Columbia Records built a collection around the Grammy-winning single, which had previously been their only other chart-topper…
