While most of their contemporaries in London were into the ideals of love & peace in the late sixties, the Edgar Broughton Band anticipated the virago of punk rock. Rob Edgar Broughton offered the following as a reason for their latest comeback. We always were a political and socially aware band, and in many ways the world today is similar to the world back in the sixties. The time has come to stand up and do it again. Well put. 40 years after it's formation, The Edgar Broughton Band features the original line up plus a new generation of Broughton with the addition of Edgar's son Luke. The music still has the hard, rebel edge it always had and Out Demons Out is as relevant today as it was in 1969 as you can hear on this concert recorded by the Rockpalast at the Crossroads Festival March 24nd, 2006 in Bonn, Germany.

The fine Germans at MIG (Made In Germany) bring you a classic Rockpalast (Rock Palace) UFO performance. Rockpalast is a world renowned German television series that began airing performances on their show in 1974 on the German television station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). The recordings are available in CD and DVD format. UFO’s rocking performance was filmed on November 29, 1980 at Westfalenhalle in Dortmund. The band consisted of Phil Moog (vocals), Pete Way (bass), Andy Parker (drums), Paul Chapman (guitar) and Neil Carter (guitar, keyboards). “Lettin’ Go” from No Place To Run, (their first post-Schenker album) gets the show off to a good start. Next up was “Long Gone,” which Moog announced it as a new song. It was featured on their next release, The Wild, the Willing and the Innocent in January 1981.

Arisen from the ashes of an early line-up of The Sisters Of Mercy and founded by Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey in 1986, The Mission established its own distinctive profile at a very early stage. Apart from their very successful albums like God's Own Medicine (1986), Children (1988) and Carved In Sand (1989) in particular, The Mission established primarily as a live act, making both Rockpalast concerts essential viewing for a fan. Without a doubt, The Mission had its first zenith in 1989/90 when the band entered the premier league of rock with the album Carved In Sand…

There was something in the air in the urban corners of late ‘60s Japan. Student protests and a rising youth culture gave way to the angura (short for “underground) movement that thrived on subverting traditions of the post-war years. Rejection of the Beatlemania-inspired Group Sounds and the squeaky clean College Folk movements led the rise of what came to be known in Japan as “New Music,” where authenticity mattered more than replicating the sounds of their idols.

ROCKPALAST is a legendary ‘live’ music TV show hosted in Germany by the WDR channel. It first broadcast in 1974 and has become a pan-European television institution. It has its own fan club and online forum, and in almost four decades, it has become a trademark of quality viewing and listening. PERFORMANCE DATE: Markthalle Hamburg, 22 February 1985 The Fixx was something of an anomaly on the British music scene as the 1970s gave way to the 1980s – as they were a ‘New Wave’ quintet that enjoyed far more success in the USA and continental Europe than they did back home in the UK. The Fixx wrote and recorded melodic, concise New Wave Rock, led by the powerful and emotive vocals of Cy Curnin, with the strong guitar work of Jamie West-Oram and keyboards of Rupert Greenall offering contrasting musical depth and texture.

Muddy Waters had a great ear for talent and accordingly the formation which you will hear on this DVD was one of the very best: The pianist Pinetop , the drummer Willie Big Eyes Smith , the bass player Calvin Jones , the two guitarists Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson and Bob Margolin and the harmonica player Jerry Portnoy. At the Rockpalast recording on December 10, 1978 at Westfalenhalle Dortmund Muddy Waters still was at the height of his creative power, his mighty vocals and his splendid charisma on stage fascinated the audience.

Robben Ford’s double CD and DVD ‘Live at Rockpalast in Leverkusen’ offers a contrasting snap shot of the jazz and blues guitarist in trio and quartet mode at the same venue, but separated by 9 years. The former Yellow Jackets/Jimmy Witherspoon/Miles Davis/Joni Mitchell and George Harrison guitarist is a ‘player’s player’, big on technique and feel, if not excitement. He’s a guitarist who can make even the most mundane tune sound interesting. And that’s exactly what he has to do sometimes in two concerts that at their best find him in exhilarating form and at worst finds him rescuing forgettable songs with unforgettable solos.
