Colin Thiele's classic story is transformed into an iconic piece of Australian cinema with the brilliant family film, 'Storm Boy'.
Storm Boy (Greg Rowe) spends his time wandering alone along the fierce but beautiful deserted coastline of South Australia's Coorong. He lives the life of a recluse with his father (Peter Cummins), who is known amongst the locals as `Hideaway Tom'. After a pelican mother is shot by hunters, Storm Boy rescues three chicks and cares for them; he gives them the names Mr Proud, Mr Ponder and Mr Percival. Storm boy's father forces him to release the birds, but Mr Percival returns. The story then focuses on the conflict between Storm Boy's lifestyle, his friendship with Fingerbone Bill (David Gulpilil), the state's requirement for him to attend school and of course, the fate of Mr. Percival.

After the relative success of his debut, it would have been very easy for Ian Hunter to continue in the glam-inspired vein that made that album so successful. Instead, he twisted his sound in a jazz direction for All American Alien Boy, a partially successful attempt to open up his sound from its traditional rock & roll routes. Since Hunter couldn't utilize the producing and arranging skills of longtime cohort Mick Ronson because of a dispute with Ronson's manager, Hunter took the reins himself and invited a diverse cast of session musicians…

Second studio album of American actress/vocalist Shepherd has a solid jazz ensemble backing her up, led by Stan Getz and arranged by Oscar Neves, and gives us a very enjoyable jazz-flavored record. She takes the Fred Astaire approach to singing, not denying that she has a limited range but working carefully within that range and even using those limitations to her advantage. Getz's solos perfectly compliment Shepherd's voice, and Frank Rosolino (trombone), Terry Trotter (piano), and Monty Budwig (upright bass) make up the rest of the core of the band.

In contrast to most actor/actresses-turned-vocalists, there's nothing to joke about on this album-no Golden Throats candidates, except maybe the title track. For starters, Shepherd has a solid jazz ensemble backing her up, led by Stan Getz and arranged by Oscar Neves, and gives us a very enjoyable jazz-flavored record. She takes the Fred Astaire approach to singing, not denying that she has a limited range but working carefully within that range and even using those limitations to her advantage. Getz's solos perfectly compliment Shepherd's voice, and she stretches out ravishingly on "This Masquerade," "I'm Old Fashioned" is a sexy torch number in her hands, without a trace of campiness, "Speak Low" soars subtly and elegantly, and the opening number, Ginastera's "Triste," is a sophisticated piece of concert music and a triumph for her as well. Peculiarly enough, the title track doesn't hold up as well as the rest, the weakness in her voice coming through at various points in its length, and is the only second-rate number here, although it is fun. Frank Rosolino (trombone), Terry Trotter (piano), and Monty Budwig (upright bass) make up the rest of the core of the band.
