Bonny sings Susanna, to simply try and save the world. Sonata Dwarf Mix Cosmos is an old companion of his, and with the Chijimi house band + 1, they bring it all back home again, this time to the space in Bonny's place.

With Best Troubador, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy pays homage to a long-time and forever hero, the late Merle Haggard. A singer who, some 25 years previously, first performed in public by playing a Merle Haggard song, Bonny has often cited Merle's work in performance, on records and in conversation with anyone who was around, even talking to Merle himself for Filter magazine in 2009. Merle's body of work was considered by Bonny for a record such as this for some time, but his passing in April of 2016 almost put a stop to it.

On 2012's The Marble Downs, Bonnie Prince Billy provided vocals for an album of songs by Trembling Bells. It was a fruitful meeting of mind and voice, but one that promised the real bounty when those songs were taken on the road. That was delivered in summer of that year when the Bells & Bonnie revue brought their own brand of rolling thunder to parts of the UK. This live album, The Bonnie Bells Of Oxford, captures the highlights of one of those special shows on vinyl.

There are no Peel sessions anymore that tradition was buried in the pyramids with John Peel himself upon the great mans passing. Of the thousands left in the wake, six are ascribed to Bonnie Prince Billy and of those six, three have been combined to form the deeply congruous experience of Pond Scum.

Singer's Grave a Sea of Tongues is the 11th new full-length album from the mind, soul and voice of the man that is Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. His first solo record on Drag City in nearly three years, it is a rich and roiling time of life that is captured in a myriad of moments throughout all the songs here. There are many roads into Singer's Grave and Bonny stands at the crossroads of them all. With every album that he makes, the Prince sees an increasing number of visions coming to greet him at the old intersection: possible pasts and futures, each radiating like a mirage in the heat.

2013 collaboration. As children, the music of The Everly Brothers touched Dawn McCarthy and Bonnie Billy; it touches Dawn's children and the little "prince" within Bonnie today, and makes them dance and sing. What The Brothers Sang is no mere gesture of nostalgia; these new versions rethink The Everly Brothers for the audience of listeners today, people who naturally might have no knowledge or experience with those songs. Why should they? It's not everyone who trawls through the dust of the past for their pleasures. Most of us live today and so, for today, these songs are made.

New age revival trio Bitchin Bajas and singer/songwriter Bonnie "Prince" Billy (a.k.a. Will Oldham) get their minimalist drone on during a loose and tranquil collaboration inspired by fortune-cookie wisdom. Flutes, keyboards, simple acoustic guitar lines and billowing backing vocals accompany Oldham's warbling tenor, while clichés like "Your hard work is about to pay off" acquire increasing profundity after several minutes' repetition. Caution: tracks like "Your Whole Family Are Well" and "Nature Makes Us for Ourselves" may induce uncommonly relaxing trance states.

In one of his rare visits to his home turf, British actor David Niven essayed the title role in Bonnie Prince Charlie. The film's principal challenge was to transform 18th-century Scottish Prince Charles into a sympathetic character, which, patriotism aside, he most decidedly was not in real life. The court-intrigue scenes are the weakest aspect of the film; the strongest moments take place on the battlefield, where Charles "the pretender" and his followers face down the battalions of King George II (Martin Miller). Even in defeat, Charles is the victor, successfully eluding his British pursuers and escaping to France. Filmed in Technicolor at a cost of $4 million, Bonnie Prince Charlie fell with a thud when it premiered at a kidney-busting 140 minutes. Subsequent reissues were cut by as many as 40 minutes, and some were economically reprocessed in black-and-white. Thanks to constant exposure on American television, this notorious flop finally posted a profit in the late 1950s.

Debut release on Mare, Kevin Morby's new imprint with Woodsist Records, Shannon Lay's Living Water is an instant classic. Recorded by Emmet Kelly (Cairo Gang, Bonnie Prince Billy, Ty Segall) in his Los Angeles home studio, this is an album where the room reacts to the music taking shape around it. Lay's voice transcends time and space. One can't tell if she's old or new, if she's sitting next to you, on a mountain top, or down in some canyon. Her second album to be released in 2017, she is a prolific songwriter, who lives and breathes melody, with guitar skills to boot. Despite it's fourteen tracks, the album comes in well under forty minutes, but like Pink Moon or Just Another Diamond Day before it, this is music so potent it exists outside the realms of time-in a world specific only to itself and the new feelings it creates.
