Although they never had much success in America, the Euro-disco group Boney M. were a European phenomenon during the '70s. After German record producer Frank Farian (born in 1942) recorded the single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump?" (which was successful in Holland and Belgium), he created Boney M. to support the song, bringing in four West Indian vocalists who had been working as session singers in Germany – Marcia Barrett (b. October 14, 1948, St. Catherines, Jamaica), Liz Mitchell (b. July 12, 1952, Clarendon, Jamaica), Maizie Williams (b. March 25, 1951, Monserrat, West Indies), and Bobby Farrell (b. October 6, 1949, Aruba, West Indies, d. December 30, 2010, St. Petersburg, Russia)…

Eye Dance is the eighth and final studio album by the vocal group Boney M., released in 1985. The cover artwork was significant of the state the group was in at that time, as neither the famous "Boney M." logo nor the group members appeared on the cover, replaced by an anonymous drawing.

After three years of inactivity, Boney M. returned to the international charts in 1984 with 10,000 Lightyears. Like Boonoonoonoos, this album was a big production: it boasted a generous array of songs in varying styles and included the Munich Symphony Orchestra thickening the sound on a number of its tracks. Sadly, 10,000 Lightyears is a mixed effort in terms of songwriting.

Kalimba de Luna – 16 Happy Songs is a compilation album by Boney M. released in late 1984. On the strength of two carbon-copy cover versions, "Kalimba de Luna" (Germany #17, 22 weeks - originally by Tony Esposito) and "Happy Song" (Germany #7, 16 weeks - original version by Baby's Gang) which gave Boney M. their first Top 20 hits in Germany in three years, this compilation was rush-released in November 1984.

This music compilation is one of the best that Boney M have ever bought out. It contains all those wonderful classics from the 1970s that had my generation dancing from dusk 'till dawn. Who can forget the catchy beat from "Ma Baker" and the toe tapping "Sunny"? If you want good music for a party or for a theme night then you won't go wrong by adding this to your CD collection.

The limited edition box contains the set of "Diamonds (40Th Anniversary Edition)" which is identical to the version available separately outside this box. There are plenty of reviews for that set here so I'll keep my comments brief. It contains a large slice of the groups German singles in their original 7" mixes/versions. This means that some songs may not feature the mix you know and love. It also means some tracks have been sourced from vinyl records, also known as needle drops, so be aware that there are variations in audio quality. While some tracks sound good for 40 year old source material, others show their age. The major reason for this release is that it's the first time that most of the original German single mixes have been compiled in the one collection with a few making their debut on cd.

The DVD has two parts. The first is a concert given in 1977, which is a rare opportunity to see how Boney M recreated their hits live on stage, assisted by backing singers and a live band. Compared to the carefully crafted studio records we're used to, the live sound is a bit rough in places, but that's true of most artists…
