JSP's second four-CD box set dedicated to the memory of eastern bluesman Blind Boy Fuller opens with his final recordings. The rest of this portable archive is packed with blues and hokum by individuals who lived and worked in the same eastern seaboard region, actually collaborated with Fuller, or performed in a style comparable to his. This is quite similar to how JSP constructed their Lightnin' Hopkins and Sonny Boy Williamson sets. Fuller, whose given name was Fulton Allen, cut approximately 137 sides during a five-year period beginning in 1935. JSP's preceding volume is the ideal tool for appreciating and understanding this celebrated Piedmont-style blues musician, whose greatest claim to fame is the ever-popular "Trucking My Blues Away."

On their umpteenth release, the Five Blind Boys of Alabama mix some modern blues and R&B into their core gospel sound. The rhythm section, led by the organ of the legendary Booker T. Jones, keeps the accompaniment simple as the group soars through some traditional material ("Closer Walk with Thee," "Every Time I Feel the Spirit, "), a few originals by lead vocalist Clarence Fountain, and a transcendent version of Bob Dylan's "I Believe in You."

My Cousin Rachel is adapted from Daphne Du Maurier's gothic romance novel of the same name, about a young Englishman called Philip who inherits his guardian's Cornish estate. Philip soon finds himself falling for his beguiling cousin Rachel, but his feelings are complicated when evidence suggests that she murdered Philip's guardian and is only showing an interest in Philip to steal his inheritance. Following this, the story follow Philip’s revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms. This is not the first time Du Maurier's 1951 novel has been adapted for the big screen. It was made into a film only a year after publication, starring Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton, and was nominated for four Oscars.

One of Canada’s most sought after musicians, Jim Doxas plays extensively both nationally and overseas. Distinguished for his improvisational approach to jazz, he makes the case that percussion can be as performative as a lyrical instrument. What distinguishes Doxas’ approach to improvisation is that he refuses to play it safe, allowing the moment to dictate the kind of framework that will contain, shape and guide the piece of music.

Label: Blind Pig | Release Year: 2014

JW-Jones is a red hot young Canadian guitar slinger/singer. For the songs on the album, Jones decided for the first time to delve deep into his personal life and tell some of his stories that he’d never revealed before. He co-wrote many of the songs with Hambridge, a noted songwriter whose tunes have been recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rascal Flatts, and Delbert McClinton, and featured in movies, commercials, and television. “Digging deep into some very serious personal stories from my past and turning them into songs has been liberating and part of the healing process. I hope these songs resonate with listeners that have been through similar experiences,” said Jones.
