Shpongle is an English psychedelic music project formed in 1996. The group includes Simon Posford (a.k.a. Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram (one third of The Infinity Project). The duo are considered to be one of the progenitors of the psybient genre - a genre combining world music with psychedelic trance and ambient. Their musical style combines traditional music from all over the globe and vocals with contemporary western synthesizer-based psychedelic music. "Are You Shpongled?" is the first of five albums released by Shpongle. This album set the standard for psychedelic downtempo music worldwide, and created a revolution between psychedelic trance and ambient soundscapes.

Are You Shpongled? builds on the ambient-trance aspirations of Shpongle's debut recording, the 20-minute opus "…And the Day Turned to Night," which is included here. It’s an album of high and lows, of tension and release. Shpongle has mastered the art of their genre leaving many psychedelic bands in the dust with their complex rhythms, intense production, or the softness of Raja’s flute breaking over the top. This is an album which much of the electronic/psychedelic world has hailed as one of the greatest pieces of work.

Man has tried to analyze human behavior for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks compared behavior to the earth, water, fire, and air. Freud, Jung, Fromm, Rodgers and Pavlov have all created their own models, some of these are lost to time, such as Mar's facial shapes, or Pavlov’s canine types.

If the heavy-hitters of outlaw country were acting like rock stars during their mid-'70s peak, then perhaps it was inevitable that the outlaws would start singing rock songs – which is precisely what Waylon Jennings did on 1976's Are You Ready for the Country. Although the title is taken from Neil Young's song – which provides an absolutely storming opener for this ten-song record – there is a bit of a jibe to its sentiment as well, since Waylon not only sings Young, but also the Marshall Tucker Band and Dr. Hook, along with reviving Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur Park." That selection of material indicates not just the increasing rock-isms of Waylon and the outlaws, it also indicates that Jennings' focus was beginning to blur slightly as he lost the sense of purpose that propelled his records of the first half the '70s, from The Taker/Tulsa to Dreaming My Dreams. Here, the music hasn't really changed, but the flow is no longer seamless and the shifting tones can be a little jarring.
