A brilliant set of live Snarky Puppy, in all their tightly grooving, though boundlessly creative jazzy soul glory – and it's as great as anything we've heard or seen from them to date! The "Here" of We Like It Here is Utrecht, Netherlands – where they recorded it live (with no overdubs. . .which is incredible, given the deft musicianship) – over 4 days at Kytopia Studios, complete with a studio audience. It's amazing stuff, bringing in even more diverse influences than before, including some kinda proggy funk, which suits the group and the live setting very well. The package includes the set on both CD and DVD, and the titles include "Shofukukan", "What About Me" "Sleeper" "Jambone", "Kite", "Outlier", "Tio Macaco" and "Lingus".
The Gov't Mule live archival series, which began in 2014 with Dark Side of the Mule and continued with Sco-Mule, continues with this document from the band's 2006 New Year's Eve Beacon Theater show. This is the "standard version" (among several) of Dub Side of the Mule from the middle of a three-set evening. It's the reggae set with the legendary Toots Hibbert fronting the band on all but the last track. He is in excellent voice throughout, living up to his reputation as one of the greatest reggae singers of all time. For this evening, Gov't Mule comprised original members Warren Haynes on guitars and vocals and Matt Abts on drums, with Danny Louis on keyboards, Andy Hess on bass, and percussionist Sean Pelton.
The 30th anniversary special edition of ‘Tales’ is a double disc hard back 32 page book with lots of extras, including the complete remix of the album and a DVD featuring live video footage of material from ‘Tales’ along with a host of MP3 files, original mixes, audio commentary and previously unreleased writing/rehearsal/demo material. GEP are set to release the 2013 remix of ‘Tales from the Lush Attic’ on 21st January 2013 (surprisingly enough) in both a double disc CD/DVD format and on vinyl.
Hasretim (“My Longing”) is a multi-media exploration of musical roots, and a musical search for cultural identity. In 2009, Guitarist and composer Marc Sinan embarked on an unusual journey, its route leading from the Black Sea coast, where his grandparents lived, to the Armenian border. En route he located and filmed traditional musicians, players whose craft is dying today, capturing a music that speaks of restlessness and temperament, and bears the footprints of Anatolia’s cultural and ethnic diversity. In Hasretim, Marc Sinan’s musical findings are integrated into his own contemporary music for mixed ensemble (orchestrated and arranged by Andrea Molino) with Turkish and Armenian guests.
