Sarah Brightman's The Songs That Got Away delivers what the title promises: a collection of 14 of Brightman's favorite songs that are more obscure to the general public. These little-known show tunes include works by Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Noël Coward, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and other great songwriters, making this album worthwhile not only for Brightman fans, but musical theater historians as well.

Unlike her 1997 album Lipslide, this time out Cracknell takes a giant step away from the patented Saint Etienne sound, surrounding her whisper-soft vocals with chamber pop, country-rock, and folk trappings (i.e., lots of guitars) while capturing the same sepia-toned nostalgic melancholy so much of their work has…

Sarah Vaughan was an American jazz singer, described by music critic Scott Yanow as having "one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century." Nicknamed "Sassy" and "The Divine One", Sarah Vaughan was a Grammy Award winner. The National Endowment for the Arts bestowed upon her its "highest honor in jazz", the NEA Jazz Masters Award, in 1989. Recordings of Sarah Vaughan were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, which is a special Grammy award established in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least twenty-five years old, and that have "qualitative or historical significance."
