Yakuza's Law is one of the most extreme and toughest Japanese gangster films ever made. In three stories you will get to know the laws of these Asian mobsters, and the ways of punishment that are inflicted upon those who break them. The basic premise of the film is that each of the three stories – one set in the feudal period, one around the time of the first world war, and one in the late sixties – teaches you what happens to those who break the specific and strictly enforced code of the Yakuza.

Mitsuko Uchida has been a committed exponent of Schoenberg's Piano Concerto for over a decade now. It is a work which remains controversial in its adaptation of the serial method to an almost Brahmsian harmonic palette, wedded to a formal approach that takes up the integrated design, and textural richness, of Schoenberg's pre-atonal works. Certainly in terms of the balance between soloist and orchestra, this recording clarifies the often capricious interplay to a degree previously unheard on disc (and most likely in the concert hall too).Interpretatively, it combines Pollini's dynamism, without the hectoring touch that creeps into the Adagio's climactic passages, and Brendel's lucidity, avoiding the deadpan feeling that pervades his final Giocoso.

Ibifornia is Cassius' first studio album in a decade. In addition to Mike D and Cat Power, who appear on the LP's first single "Action," Ibifornia also boasts guests like Ryan Tedder, Jaw, Portugal. The Man's John Gourley and Pharrell Williams. Williams teams up with Cat Power on the latest offering from the album, the trance anthem "Go Up." Williams previously worked with Cassius on the duo's "Eye Water," off their 2006 album 15 Again. "Go Up" fits the vibe of what Cassius' Phillippe Zdar calls "the Cassius and the Family Stone"; the album title itself is a portmanteau that combines the dusky dance clubs of Ibiza with the sunny, laidback feeling of California.

The Extra Day is a portmanteau film in the tradition of the earlier Derby Day. The ball gets rolling when Joe Blake (Richard Basehart), the assistant to film director Kurt Vorn (Laurence Naismith), routinely summons a group of movie extras for a few necessary retakes. The audience then learns the "backstories" of the various extras. Starving artist Steven Marlow (George Baker), who has been doing crowd work to pay the bills, is the object of movie star Michele Blanchard's (Simone Simon) affections, even though he doesn't know it. Prizefighter Barney West (Sidney James) worries that he'll lose his extra job if his face is messed up in the ring. Socialite Toni Howard (Josephine Griffin) works in films to get away from the social whirl; her callback to Vorn's set nearly scotches her impending marriage to a famous singing star. And so it goes until the extras are assembled and Vorn yells "action." Future pop star Shani Wallis makes her screen debut in The Extra Day in a minor role.

Swiss experimental rock quartet Sonar (whose name is a portmanteau of "sonic" and "architecture") comprise guitarists Stephan Thelen and Bernhard Wagner, bassist Christian Kuntner, and drummer Manuel Pasquinelli. The bandmembers bring an array of talents uniquely suited to creating Sonar's precise and rhythmically complex yet spacious and streamlined post-minimalist sound, harmonically idiosyncratic with the guitars and bass tuned in tritones (an interval given the Latin name diabolus in musica – the devil in music – during medieval times). Sonar played their first gigs in Zurich and Bern in June 2011, and recorded their debut album, A Flaw of Nature, live in the studio at Bern's Swiss Jazz School two months later. A Flaw of Nature was released on pianist Nik Bärtsch's Ronin Rhythm imprint in April 2012…

Progressive Rock, Experimental Rock, Minimalism | Cuneiform Records #Rune 414

Sonar and their mesmerizing/infuriating (choose depending on your perspective) music exploded on a unsuspecting world with Cuneiform's release of their album, Static Motion, 2 years ago. An instrumental rock quartet consisting of 2 guitars, bass and drums, they are a progressive, post-minimal, instrumental band from Switzerland. Their name stands for SONic ARchitecture, alluding to their intention of creating polymetrical soundscapes and highly structured aural spaces. Sonar's music is played live without any sequencers, loops or computers using a minimum amount of equipment: 2 guitars, a bass guitar, 3 small amplifiers und a basic drum kit. No effects are used to keep the music as clear, direct and immediate as possible. The group is very concerned about timbres, tension and release, group dynamics and instrumental interplay…
