Phil Collins' first solo album, 1981's Face Value, was a long time coming, but it proved worth the wait, both for the Genesis drummer/vocalist himself and fans of thoughtful, emotionally charged pop. He'd been wrestling with the idea of doing a solo record for years, finding great inspiration in the pain caused by an impending divorce and craving artistic independence after years of collaboration…

Phil Collins first enjoyed international success as the drummer with Genesis and then subsequently as lead singer when Peter Gabriel left the band. In 1981, however, Face Value launched him as a solo artist and remains in many ways his most exciting and unusual music offering.Face Value was immediately a worldwide hit, entering British charts at Number 1, spending almost six years in the Top 75, and selling in excess of 12 million copies. The album went on to make the U.S. Top 10, earning a gold disc. Face Value also gave birth to several hit singles, including the atmospheric 'In The Air Tonight,' ' I Missed Again,' and 'If Leaving Me Is Easy.'

Ten of Collins' soft-rock hits (including "In the Air Tonight," "One More Night," and the cover of "Groovy Kind of Love") are given a smooth, friendly easy-listening treatment on this disc; the only drawback are the oppressive synthesized drums, which give the entire recording a mechanical feel.

Spawning four hit singles, But Seriously topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. While pursuing much of the same formula as on No Jacket Required, there was also a move toward more organic production as Collins abandoned some of the drum machines and prominent keyboards in the up-tempo numbers in favor of live instrumentation…

After the one-two punch of Phil Collins' first two solo albums, Face Value and Hello, I Must Be Going!, plus the hits he was concurrently having with Genesis, it might seem like he was primed for an artistic and commercial drop-off. Instead, he responded with the biggest album of his career. No Jacket Required topped the charts in the U.S. and U.K., won a Grammy for Album of the Year, and spawned four Top Ten singles, including two number ones in "Sussudio" and "One More Night." It was such a monster success that it made Collins one of the biggest stars on the planet, something that a few years before seemed unlikely if not impossible…

Phil Collins certainly has enough hits to fill out a double-disc compilation – in the U.K. he had 25 Top 40 singles and he reached the Billboard Top 40 21 times in the U.S., with many of them overlapping – but the 2016 set The Singles doesn't march through these hits in chronological order. Opening with "Easy Lover," his 1985 duet with Earth, Wind & Fire's Philip Bailey, this 33-track compilation happily hopscotches through the years. Such non-chronological sequencing does mean certain hits are saved for the greatest emotional impact – naturally, "Take Me Home" closes out the proceedings – but it also focuses attention on songs that weren't blockbusters, whether it's such meditative turn-of-the-'90s adult contemporary hits…

Dance into the Light is the sixth solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was originally released on 21 October 1996 on the label Atlantic. It features guest backing vocalists, including Arnold McCuller, and Amy Keys. It was notable for being the first album that Collins released as a full-time solo artist, having left Genesis earlier that year. The album was received negatively by the majority of music critics, while other reviewers noted good points to the album. It was also a commercial disappointment, and despite hitting #23 on the Billboard 200, the album became Collins' poorest selling album at the time. Dance into the Light was certified Gold in the U.S…

Pop icon Phil Collins first rose to major fame as drummer and then lead singer for British prog-rock supergroup Genesis. It was with Collins at the mic that the band rose to arena-act stature. Collins' massive popularity as a solo artist, however, eclipsed even that level of success, as the soft-spoken superstar–who started as a child actor on the London stage–went on to become one of the biggest names in popular music over the next two decades. The irresistible charm of Phil Collins turned him into one of the top pop stars of the MTV era. Here are almost two hours of his best from 1981 to 2003: his hits One More Night; Against All Odds, and Everyday plus You'll Be in My Heart, alongside previously-unreleased tracks such as "Somewhere", "I’ve Been Trying" and "Always".

Both Sides is the fifth solo studio album by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins. Featuring an adult-oriented soft rock based sound, the release came out in November 1993. Collins notably created the album entirely by himself without any collaborations from outside songwriters and performers, and he picked up mixed to positive critical reviews with the release, with Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic stating that the album's "artistically satisfying" songs feature "troubled, haunting tales". The album achieved commercial success, reaching number one in the U.K., number eight in Australia, and number thirteen in the U.S.
