The Whitefield Brothers are a down-and-dirty funk group that makes raw, organic funk using nothing but instruments and an Afro-Caribbean sense of rhythm. The group is actually a project put together by German funk players the Poets Of Rhythm, although the approach is different from their previous output.

Now That's What I Call Music! 96 or Now 96 is a double-disc compilation album which will be released in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 7 April 2017. It is the 96th edition of the UK Now! series and will be available on CD and for digital download. "Fastlove", which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1996, was added as a tribute to George Michael who died before the release of this album. Jazz / Post Bop / Progressive Jazz / Modern Jazz / Jazz Funk / Prog Rock / Soul / Soft Rock

Two years after the death of pianist-composer Thelonious Monk, this very unusual and quite memorable double-LP tribute was put together. Producer Hal Willner's most successful project, the 23 interpretations of Monk originals all feature a different group of all-star players and stretch beyond jazz. Some of the performances are fairly straightforward while others are quite eccentric; certainly the crazy duet on "Four in One" by altoist Gary Windo and Todd Rundgren (on synthesizers and drum machines) and the version of "Shuffle Boil" featuring John Zorn on game calls (imitating the sound of ducks) are quite unique. There are many colorful moments throughout the project and the roster of musicians is remarkable: Bobby McFerrin with Bob Dorough, Peter Frampton, Joe Jackson, Steve Lacy, Dr. John, Gil Evans, Randy Weston, Roswell Rudd, Eugene Chadbourne and Shockabilly, the Fowler Brothers, NRBQ, Steve Khan, Carla Bley, Barry Harris, Was (Not Was) and many others. There is not a slow moment or uninteresting selection on this highly recommended set.

4.5 stars. Easily becoming one of my favourite Jad Warrior albums. I highly recommend this album to fans of Porcupine Tree, David Sylvian solo, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Flower Kings, Steve Morse-era Deep Purple, Djivan Gasparyan, Dead Can Dance, Elbow, old and modern King Crimson, David Gilmour solo, later period Talk Talk, Michael Brook and Rush(yes…Rush!). Also, throw in the kitchen sink with _world musics_ and the mid-period chamber rock/ambient works of '74-'78 Jade Warrior…

Blues / Traditional Blues / Delta Blues / Electric Blues / Memphis Blues

If you love the Blues, these sets provide some of the greatest songs all in one collection. You need these in your collection. It's very hard to characterize "Memphis blues," even though all blues started at Memphis. This is more delta blues, but still a good collection. Some of what we call "Chicago blues" is more of "toned up" Memphis blues. Not so much of that here, and it should've been included. Old school Blues with a large selection of music and great artist, enjoyed it.

Indie Pop, Singer-Songwriter | MP3 CBR 320 kbps | 41:07 min | 94.7 MB
Label: Secretly Canadian | Tracks: 10 | Rls.date: 2017

Jens Lekman has announced his new album, Life Will See You Now, due out February 17th via Secretly Canadian. Across three studio albums, the Swedish singer/songwriter and musician has proven not only his flair for telling very personal stories with a sharp self-awareness, but also his skill for balancing depth of emotional expression with droll and often self-deprecating detail. It's a winning pop combination. His fourth, Life Will See You Now is a typical Lekman album in several ways: sly humor is key to its heartfelt nature; it inverts pop's writing norm by making songs with sad concerns sound happy and songs with a happy subject sound sad; and it plays with notions of identity and the self.

Part live stand-up performance, part documentary, this film is one of comedian Richard Pryor's later stand-up performances. As foul-mouthed as ever, Pryor touches on most of the same topics as in his previous live shows.

The Doobies team up with the Memphis Horns for an even more Southern-flavored album than usual, although also a more uneven one. By this time, Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and company had pretty well inherited the mantle and the core (and then some) of the audience left behind by Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty, with Johnston songs like "Pursuit on 53rd Street," "Down in the Track," and "Road Angel" recalling pieces like "Travelin' Band," while Simmons' "Black Water" (their first number one hit) evoked the softer side of the "swamp rock" popularized by CCR…
