"If you like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and a bit of Celtic rock, with a pinch flute, then you will love this, i came across this band by a promo disc on Classic Rock Mag, got 4 of there albums already, but soon as i see a SACD mix it was a must have, and i was not dissapointed, a true 5.1 mix recorded live in York, Next to Pink Floyd DSOTM this is my favorite, the true feeling of being there is great"
This disc shows a year in the life of Mostly Autumn, the year of the transition from the somewhat folky directed first albums to the more rock oriented Passengers, or at least that is how they will it. The tracks are interspersed with little bits of interview, and impressions of life on the road.
This is the debut album from UK band Mostly Autumn. They are playing rock mixed with reminiscences to Celtic music, Fairport Convention, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Steeleye Span. This is a very strong debut album with a lot of power, great melodies and good musicianship from this band. They are using various untraditional instruments such as Djembe, flute, tambourine, violin and whistles together with traditional rock instruments. The highlights are the opening progressive track "Nowhere To Hide", the two beautiful Celtic folk rock tracks "Folklore" and "Shenanigans", the Irish influenced "Out Of The Inn" and the closing 10-minute "The Night Sky".
The loss of a key member is always traumatic for a band, no matter how amicable, and so it was with the departure of Mostly Autumn keyboard player Iain Jennings at the beginning of 2006. Indeed, early live shows after his exit were tentative at best, with Chris Johnson coming in to supply back up keys while Angela Gordon gamely added more keyboards to her excellent flute work. At the time, Johnson looked like a temporary member, there to fill a gap at a time of need. However, bandleader Bryan Josh clearly had a master plan, and the group's excellent new album Heart Full of Sky (Mostly Autumn Records (UK) AUT0933, 2006), and the first on their all-new label, introduces Johnson as a new creative force in the invention of Mostly Autumn music. Not as a keyboard player, but as a writer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. In doing so Josh and Johnson appear to have invigorated the band.
UK two CD pressing. 2013 live release from the British Folk-Prog band taped live at the Boerderij in Holland. A superb representation of this amazing band, whose live performances are renowned - this is what they do!
“Dressed in Voices” is Mostly Autumn’s eleventh studio album, their third with Olivia Sparnenn on lead vocals, and the first concept album in their lengthy career. As Bryan Josh said at the end of last year, it was originally intended as a Josh & Co album, but a dark and intense concept came in from somewhere unknown and took on a life of its own.
