A dose of jazz, classical dose, a dose of world music, strings placed as brass, rhythmic hell … For this 11th album, Thierry Maillard back surrounded valuable Yoann Schmidt on drums and Matyas Szandai the bass. He invited a 12-string orchestra, for which he subtly blends classical writing strings to write rhythmic jazz places like brass in the manner of a big band, allowing an emotional journey melodic. To spice up the adventure, pianist invited artists like Didier Malherbe to duduk or Djemai Abdenour oud among others…

The colossally popular Zatoichi films make up the longest-running action series in Japanese history and created one of the screen’s great heroes: an itinerant blind masseur who also happens to be a lightning-fast swordsman. As this iconic figure, the charismatic and earthy Shintaro Katsu became an instant superstar, lending a larger-than-life presence to the thrilling adventures of a man who lives staunchly by a code of honor and delivers justice in every town and village he enters. The films that feature him are variously pulse-pounding, hilarious, stirring, and completely off-the-wall. This deluxe set features the string of twenty-five Zatoichi films made between 1962 and 1973, collected in one package for the first time.

Reissue with the latest DSD remastering. Comes with liner notes. Beautiful work from trumpeter Terumasa Hino – an early 80s date that was issued in the US, but one that's got as much bold power and freewheeling soul as his Japanese releases from a decade before! The album's surprisingly open for the time – not in the slicker mode that Columbia was hitting as they crossed over some of their 70s fusion players, but in spacious territory that has Hino blowing cornet, in larger arrangements from keyboardist Masabumi Kikuchi and Gil Evans – the latter of whom seems to contribute a strong sense of color and tone to the album! The lineup is great, too – and features both Herbie Hancock and Kenny Kirkland on keyboards, Steve Grossman on reeds, Harvey Mason and Lenny White on drums, Anthony Jackson on bass, and Airto on percussion.

Top piece of Japanese fusion with arrangements by Gil Evans and Masabumi Kikuchi from a stellar line up. Highly Recommended.
Merry Go Round was huge on the dance floor for Paul Murphy back in the day at the Electric Ballroom - a massive hunk of funk anchored by a titanic bass line with chattering guitars and a wall of percussion with soloists taking off in all directions - murdah !!!
