Trip Hop, Downtempo, Ambient, Acid Jazz | Label: Compost | # 038-2 | 00:53:02

Nominally based around a series of hard bop and film-music samples amplified with crunchy beats, Mellowdramatic is an exceptional record of downtempo grooves and late-night Rhodes keyboards. Producer Bernd Kunz has an excellent sense of atmosphere concerning what a laid-back trip-hop album should be, illustrated by tracks like "Minigame", "Everything" and "Duo Trippin'".

Indie Folk, Singer-Songwriter

Based out of Berlin, Germany, multinational indie folk trio Mighty Oaks formed in 2010 around the talents of multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Ian Hooper (United States), Claudio Donzelli (Italy), and Craig Saunders (United Kingdom). The group's tight, three-part harmonies and effusive, largely acoustic-driven folk anthems have drawn comparisons to bands like the Lumineers, Fleet Foxes, and American Authors. They released a home-recorded EP in 2010 which garnered 370,000 downloads, and in 2012 they began work on a proper studio EP. The resulting Just One Day drew rave regional reviews, and was followed in early 2014 by the group's debut long-player, the Universal-issued Howl. ~ James Christopher Monger

For much of the 1970s and '80s, guitarist Mighty Joe Young owned Chicago's cozy Wise Fools Pub at least musically speaking, he was the club's top draw. Wise Fools Pub had a long and intriguing history that has played out in three acts. It started when it opened in 1968 and it quickly became one of the North Side's most popular blues clubs, particularly once David Ungeleider took over in 1972 and invited blues legends from South Side clubs, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Jimmy Dawkins. George Thorogood made his first Chicago appearance at Wise Fools Pub, and Otis Rush and Mighty Joe Young both recorded live albums here.

In 1959, at just nineteen years of age, Harry Jerome was Canada's most promising track and field star, and was on his way to the Olympics in Rome. By 1962, after suffering a gruesome leg injury, there was every reason to think that his racing days were over. But Jerome was not just a champion on the track; he was doubly determined off it. And so began his climb to what his coach, the legendary Bill Bowerman, called "the greatest comeback in track and field history."
