Guitarist Herb Ellis is joined by rhythm guitarist Freddie Green, pianist Ross Tompkins, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jake Hanna for this lightly swinging but uneventful program which has been reissued on CD. Since Green as usual does not solo, his contribution is purely as a background player. Ellis, Tompkins and Brown are the lead voices on a variety of swing tunes; best are "It Had To Be You," "A Smooth One" and "When My Dream Boat Comes Home".
Midnight Love is the final studio album recorded and issued by American soul singer Marvin Gaye and was the singer’s first release from Columbia months after leaving his longtime label, Motown. It claimed the number one slot on NME Album of the Year.
Slovo is a British electronic band started by guitarist Dave Randall. In 2002 he brought together Iceland's Emilíana Torrini, West Africa's Maezah, England's Kirsty Hawkshaw, the urban poems of AD, the drums of Max Roach, the voice of Charlie Chaplin and the words of Woody Guthrie. Entitled nommo, Slovo's debut album raised questions about the world and was in the words of The Sunday Times, "a wonderful album that is both stridently polemical and determinedly celebratory".
