The tenth volume of the reliable Buddha-Bar series, mixed by Ravin, features another timely assortment of mostly low-key dance tracks. This is one of the more stylistically varied sets in the series, including Pier Bucci's “Hay Consuelo,” the Real Tuesday Weld's “Kix,” DJ Disse's update of the Doors' “Break on Through,” Markus Enochson and Masaya’s “For You to See,” and Nitin Sawhney featuring the London Symphony Orchestra's “Songbird.”

Likely the only time Grant Lee Buffalo's Grant Lee Phillips and Cirque du Soleil will appear in the same commercial DJ mix, the ninth volume of the Buddha-Bar series is mixed by Ravin, who presents a typically diverse set of tracks that fits into the establishment’s take (relaxed, spiritual) on dance music.

This is a wonderfully mixed album, great songs that flow into each other with amazing synchronicity. The Paris album is more of a chillout mix, while the New York album has more of a dance beat. Both make for wonderful listening.

On the seventh volume of the Buddha-Bar series, the mixing duties are split between DJs Ravin and David Visan – the latter a protégé of Buddha-Bar founder Claude Challe. Disc one is highlighted by the Charles Webster remix of Salif Keita's “Moussoulou,” Federico Aubele's “Postales,” and My Phuong Nguyen & Thierry David's "Huong Viêtnam," while the second disc is led by Ryukyu Underground's "Mo Ashibi" [Jason Bentley Remix] and Les Négresses Vertes' "Sous le Soleil de Bodega (Bodega Di Moko)."

Incredibly, the quality of the Buddha Bar series is holding steady, which is good given that the quality level is about as good as it gets. I have all six Buddha Bar CDs (as well as a growing collection of other "chill out" CDs). On most of the Buddha Bar CD collections, I tend to favor the CD with with the uptempo beats.

The mystique of Paris's trendy Buddha-Bar exists largely due to its enthralling background music, as exemplified by the venue's highly successful series of compilations. The two discs of this fifth installment are filled with a diverse selection of artists from around the world.

Claude Challe's Buddha-Bar, Vol. II compilation has elements of Far Eastern spirituality, African song, European electronica, and Spanish spice. The first album, Buddha-Bar, is very mellow for the most part. Deepak Chopra and Demi Moore, far and away the most recognizable names on the album, do a spoken word ditty on love and self-worth.

Three well-structured aero/tone interval workouts led by “The Biggest Loser” trainer. These fast-paced exercises will keep you burning fat as you sculpt muscle. The programs build in intensity; you can start with the intermediate level and work up to the advanced program (it’s tough! — moves like plyo-lunges and traveling pushups). Each workout has three “cycles.” Each cycle starts with three minutes of multi-muscle and isolated strength training. Then it’s two minutes of non-dancy kickbox and athletic-style cardio. That’s followed by one minute of classic abwork (then — no rest — you’ll immediately start a new cycle). Like on the TV show, Jillian is both demanding and supportive. Requires 3 to 5 lb. dumbbells.

After 400 BC, a new philosophy was born in South east Asia, generated from the ideas of Buddha, a mysterious Prince from Nepal who gained enlightenment while he sat under a large, shapely fig tree. Buddha never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth, only that he was a human being who had found a kind of serenity that others could find, too. This documentary tells the story of his life.
