Sheku Kanneh-Mason, BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2016, pays tribute to his mentors and heroes on his thrilling debut album. The cellist shows impressive maturity and confidence, whether he’s harking back to his time in a school klezmer band (“Evening of Roses”) or playing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, his performance of which so moved the Young Musician judges. There are touching, personal nods to early 20th-century cello master Pablo Casals and genius performer Jacqueline du Pré, while the album is rounded off with superb arrangements of iconic songs by Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen.

Behavioral Neurobiology of Psychedelic Drugs By Adam L. Halberstadt
English | PDF | 2018 | 434 Pages | ISBN : 3662558785 | 10.83 MB

This volume brings together the latest basic and clinical research examining the effects and underlying mechanisms of psychedelic drugs. Examples of drugs within this group include LSD, psilocybin, and mescaline. Despite their structural differences, these compounds produce remarkably similar experiences in humans and share a common mechanism of action. Commonalities among the substances in this family are addressed both at the clinical and phenomenological level and at the basic neurobiological mechanism level. To the extent possible, contributions relate the clinical and preclinical findings to one another across species. The volume addresses both the risks associated with the use of these drugs and the potential medical benefits that might be associated with these and related compounds.

The idea, says Lee, was “to bring together some of my longstanding band members with some of the younger players that I had recently begun to collaborate with. I wasn't thinking about specific instruments really, just the players that I was excited about working with. The name to me simply speaks of our efforts to make sense of our world through artistic practice. And of course there are echoes of much of the music that has been meaningful to me over the years.” (She cites Carla Bley and Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra as inspirations.) With many colours to draw upon, the music is multi-layered and texturally varied, featuring driving rhythmic vamps, incendiary improvisation and sometimes achingly beautiful melodic compositions.
