Dire Straits leader Mark Knopfler's intricate, introspective finger-picked guitar stylings make a perfect musical complement to the wistful tone of Bill Forsyth's comedy film, Local Hero. This album was billed as a Knopfler solo album rather than an original soundtrack album, with the notation "music … for the film."…

The Freedom to Fail marks an exploration into new territory for 20-year Austin veteran Guy Forsyth. Rather than focus his efforts solely on making an album that embodied the energy surrounding he and his band s dynamic live performances, Forsyth instead opted to create a work that doubled as a message to his young daughter, instilling upon her that she had to grow up feeling the freedom to fail. Produced by Matt Smith and recorded at the Lost Oasis Studio in Austin, Texas, The Freedom to Fail finds Forsyth handling a wide array of stringed instruments both contemporary and traditional, including the banjo, mandolin, baritone guitar, and harp guitar a 12-stringed instrument made popular at the turn of the 20th century.

It can take three weeks to prepare an impromptu speech, as Mark Twain once observed. But today's managers are often called on to give talks and speeches. Not only do you need to be good at it but speed is also essential. This book is designed to help, whether you are having to speak for the first time or if you already have both experience and competence. It presents concise and practical advise on content and technique, then goes on to provide specific guidance in the form of blueprints for over 25 individual speaking situations.

England's Orlando Consort, a quartet of male singers augmented as needed by other performers, offers performances of Renaissance vocal music that lie midway between the traditional and the highly individualized modern. Sometimes they veer toward one of those two extremes, but often, as on the present disc, they find a happy medium. Their sound, especially in sacred music, owes much to the English cathedral tradition, but there's a well-honed edge to their one-voice-to-a-part interpretations that brings out the crowds who've recently been drawn to early music. This disc is intended as an introduction to a composer who doesn't always offer easy listening to the modern ear. Netherlander Antoine Busnois, active at the end of the fifteenth century and considered the greatest figure between Dufay and Josquin, wrote music that broke free from elaborate medieval numerology but came in advance of Josquin's perfect marriage of music and text.
