As years go by, Manu Le Prince stands out today as one of the most beautiful voices of latin jazz in France. A singer known for her warm and sensuous vocal timbre, she is also an accomplished lyric writer and composer, so adding to her interpretations of standard jazz songs a very personal touch giving them a new dimension. Born in Paris with anglo-argentinian origins and brazilian by heart, Manu has been living between Paris and Rio during the latest 25 years, mixing intimately the Jazz music that rocked her childhood with brazilian music. Manu has been so following a path to success that started with her performances with Christian Vander's mythical french jazz band MAGMA, until more recently, through her collaboration with renowned brazilian peformers such as trombonist Raul de SOUZA or Hermeto PASCOAL.

Third ECM album by French-African drummer Manu Katché, following the best selling 'Neighbourhood' and 'Playground'. 'Third Round' features a completely revised ensemble line-up, but is faithful to a group concept that The Guardian described as "beautifully mutated grooves and jazzy themes", with all participants elevated by the physical presence of Katché's beats and drum patterns. Once again, all music is written by Manu, and his insinuating melodies testify to parallel lives in pop and jazz. The album was recorded in the South of France with producer Manfred Eicher…

As titled, Reflejos Migrantes (Migrant Reflections) can be read literally as referencing the tango quartet makeup led by Buenos Aires-born, Paris-based pianist-composer Gerardo Jerez Le Cam. But this is music infiltrated by a more profound figurative connotation, the transformation of Western European culture and demography following the Soviet Union's demise, and errant U.S. adventure in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa since the 1990s.

Metromonk is the third solo album from celebrated Hang player, percussionist, producer and composer, Manu Delago. The LP finds this boundary-testing artist distilling and delicately exploring extremes of dynamics and mood; manipulating the Hang in experimental and inventive ways, the many voices and tones of this rare instrument are given top billing among a minimalistic palette of beats and acoustic sources.

Dibango is perhaps best remembered for his 1972 afrobeat single Soul Makossa, often considered the first disco record. This new best-of collection from Frémeaux features twelve tracks released between 1978 and 1989, including the 1978 Kingston remix of Reggae Makossa. Guest artists include Michael and Randy Brecker, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.

Label: World Music Network | Year Of Release: 2004

A nice compilation of the ultra-varied career of Manu Dibango. The disc jumps from era to era comfortably, but hits upon almost every phase Dibango passed through (with the surprising exception of the original "Soul Makossa"). The album starts out in his early years with a sax-saturated ska in "Ngolowake," moving to the solo marimba work, a smooth jazz-esque version of "Nature Boy," and an orchestral work from his early days. Also included are pieces from the makossa days, contemporary R&B, urban grooves and more. The album ends with a contemporary remix of "Soul Makossa" and "Big Blow," with Bill Laswell and Herbie Hancock taking the sideman roles. Dibango has an über-impressive resume, and this is one of the better collections to introduce listeners to the variety present.

French drummer Manu Katche always seemed something of an odd man at ECM Records on his four solo discs—warm, groove-centric, gregarious sets competing with the Nordic cool of Tord Gustavsen, or the thoughtful melancholy of trumpeter Tomasz Stanko and pianist Marcin Wasilewski. And—like few artists in the ECM stable—he crossed successfully into the rock world via work with Peter Gabriel, Sting, Robbie Robertson and many more.

The material on “Unstatic” is comprised of eleven originals written by the leader, all of them played in what has now become familiar as the ‘Manu Katche style’. Katche’s way with a groove and ear for a good tune remain undimmed and the core group sound is expanded by the presence of guest trombonist Nils Landgren who appears on five tracks. Landgren features on the opening track, simply titled “Introduccion”, a seductive rhumba that finds Katche working in harness with no fewer than three guest percussionists in the shapes of Abraham Rodriguez Mansfarroll, Joel Hiereezuelo Balart and Esteben Sotolongo Zapata. Landgren makes a significant contribution on trombone alongside Watson on acoustic piano.
