SLY & ROBBIE recruited the American rock guitarist Daryl Thompson († 2014) whom they knew from their time with PETER TOSH. They engaged the keyboardist Franklyn 'Bubbler' Waul who was however not allowed to play the reggae typical shuffle organ but to steadily thrash the offbeat onto the piano. Those two musicians who were being replaced at several shows with Keith Sterling and Mikey Chung formed the core of BLACK UHURU which together with a second guitarist and a percussionist also dominated the stage in Essen.

In 1983, Thompson went on tour to promote his current album "Hand Of Kindness". For the show on December 12, 1983, at the Hamburg Markthalle the WDR also put up their cameras to record the event for the Rockpalast.

Two complete Rockpalast TV shows from Germany (1998 / 2008) plus a bonus concert from 2002, 12-page booklet. The Rockpalast performance of June 21, 1998 at the Loreley is a significant example of the first international phase of success. It was Tito & Tarantula's third concert in Germany and it shows that their musical reputation did not crumble to dust in broad daylight at all. At that time the violinist and mandolin player Lyn Bertles gave the band a more folkloristic touch. That and the simmering mixture of blues, rock and Americana with Mexican influences put the German crowd under the same spell as the shady spectators in the famous movie scene…

The Rockpalast concert recorded on April 11, 2008 in Bonn , is giving a late testimony to Blue Cheer's unbroken stage power: From the soulful blues cover of Mose Allison's Parchment Farm of their debut album and the Albert King classic The Hunter of their second album Outsideinside, the clanking and piercing current material of What Doesn't Kill You… (I'm Gonna Get To You, Rollin' Dem Bones) culminating in - of course - Summertime Blues, Blue Cheer shine as a thundering triumvirate. A historic recording because only one and a half year later Dickie Peterson died of cancer on October 12, 2009 in his adopted home Germany at the age of 63, thus putting Blue Cheer to an end. Their deafening testimony however, will reverberate for a long time.

!!! The very best of rock history for your enjoyment !!! The Rockpalast concert is pure live Little Feat, as is breathtakingly evident on "Skin It Back". Although the VHS version, and later the 2000 DVD version with commentary from keyboardist Bill Payne and guitarist Paul Barrere circulated for years among fans, this new release is the one that really kicks! Both audio and video have been remastered for a listening pleasure beyond comparison.

Because Champion Jack Dupree lived and toured in Germany for an extended period of time, many older blues fans will remember his live shows, which were a mixture of barrelhouse blues and boogie, stories and mostly saucy jokes (Shakesbeer says …). On the other side, there also were his very emotional, often autobiographical slow blues. The concert DVD presents all facets of this great barrelhouse piano player and singer; it is fun to watch, offers musical pleasures and makes you realize that there are hardly any true characters left in the blues who would ask for another beer even in a TV studio, before the show goes on.

His intoxicating, rough and dynamic Rockpalast performance on November 4, 1976 marked the big European breakthrough for young Canadian multi-instrumentalist Pat Travers who had just landed a major deal with Polydor in London. At that time, his band consisted of Peter “Mars” Cowling on bass and Nicko McBrain who is meanwhile drumming for Iron Maiden. Several albums later, in the 80’s, when hard rock and blues orientated rock lost its impact due to punk and new wave, Travers moved back to the US where the scene was still hooked on the genre. Still, Travers has the best reputation as a great live act with all his full speed energy and he connected well with his fans.

That was not what George Thorogood & The Destroyers expected from their Rockpalast show on 26th November 1980 at Westfalenhalle in Dortmund. Starting with the third song of the concert, the Willie Dixon tune I'm Wanted, the audience - having been rather reserved at first - was asked by the American singer and guitarist to participate. The space in front of the stage was empty, so Thorogood wanted to motivate the crowd to get up and dance. Some fans followed his invitation, so that at the end of the regular show there was quite a party. With the encore then the whole thing went a little astray, when our sax player Hank Carter announced in broken German that we would like to see more dancers.
