A marvellous black American singer and accordionist, Clifton Chenier succeeded in forging a style all his own, Zydeco, and for a long time he was considered its sole representative. Born in the 30s, the music came from mixed Creole and Cajun cultures in French-speaking Louisiana; when Chenier took hold of the genre it was marginal and mocked by mainstream America, but in just a few years, with a series of hit albums, the man they called the “King of Zydeco” turned the music into an accomplished form of expression that everyone appreciated. This anthology from Jean Buzelin follows the history of this King’s coronation between 1954 and 1960.

With its lavish music and elaborate staging, the semi-opera King Arthur is one of the masterpieces in Purcell’s works. On a text by the poet John Dryden very freely inspired from Arthurian legend and specifically devised for him, Purcell created a work of great expressive intensity which includes among his most beautiful and well-known arias.

How I Live Now is the big screen adaptation of the award-winning young adult novel by Meg Rosoff, directed by acclaimed Academy Award winning director Kevin McDonald (The Last King Of Scotland, Marley). The original soundtrack is scored by Jon Hopkins, composer, producer and longterm collaborator of Brian Eno and Coldplay. Featuring some of his darkest, most nihilistic work to date, the score is built from two contrasting elements - atonal, sub-terrestrial drones with a backbone of pounding rhythms, and sublimely pastoral acoustic piano. These two opposing musical forces guide the viewer through the film, by turns disturbing and beautifully meditative. The centrepiece of the score is the track The Hawk, a timeless and heartbreaking theme that recurs throughout the film.
