Where a slow-burning, word of mouth campaign was hugely beneficial to Jon Allen – his debut album, 2009’s Dead Man’s Suit, was given a sizeable leg-up by one track’s use in a Land Rover campaign, while champions included Jo Whiley, Jools Holland and Emmylou Harris – second album Sweet Defeat not only has the task of matching this, but is also burdened with the albatross of assumed instant impact. But it seems as though that’s the last thing Allen is worried about. While his passport may substantiate the on-paper Britishness of this Hampshire-born artist, his yarns and philosophies paint a picture of a grizzled American folk musician, decades of abandon behind him. Sweet Defeat, in this vein, employs good honest rock'n'roll ideals, actioned via a collection of simple, folksy melodies.

Angelic voiced Jon Anderson may have achieved his greatest fame and accolades as lead singer of the legendary British progressive rock band Yes, but his solo ventures-from 1976's Olias of Sunhillow to his first Higher Octave release, the primarily instrumental Angels Embrace-have tapped into a more personal, spiritual side of his artistry.

Well what can I say regarding such a remarkable step of Jon Anderson brilliant career?!!..As in the recent times his illness brought about a certain strength in his composition, thanks to his strong reaction to his unlucky fate (also in his recent 2011 American Tour, where his performance on stage has been improving all his successful concerts in America and Mexico for a few months), now I like to point out that He's been able to put a great quality into the present new composition, by considering this "Survival…" in its essence.

A Sunday in Autumn (1994). Jon Mark uses his electronic keyboards to produce a CD filled with incredibly evocative music. The melancholy and reflection that flow through every song on this recording are indicative of the time of year when trees go bare, the air grows cold, and winter begins to appear. Some of the songs are tinged with bittersweet memories, others are more minor-key and somber.
Asia Journey (1996). Blending his unique warm and melodic yet still distinctly ambient keyboards with a subtle yet tangible Far Eastern texture, Jon Mark has once again delivered the goods. This man can, apparently, do no wrong…
