An instrumental album featuring John Renbourn with his Pentangle bandmate Terry Cox on percussion and Ray Warleigh on flute. Originally released in England in 1968, the same year that Pentangle started to record, Sir John Alot was steeped largely in English folk music, but some parts of this album are surprisingly contemporary sounding, such as the bluesy "Transfusion."

After many years in the music business, saxophonist-bandleader-composer John Lurie has created a musical identity all his own. Best known for his mercurial work with the Lounge Lizards, Lurie has found a pleasant niche recording soundtracks for films like Get Shorty and Stranger Than Paradise. Accompanied by a number of talented musicians, including Marc Ribot, John Medeski, Calvin Weston, and other assorted Lounge Lizards, Lurie displays an impressive ability to create lively and evocative film music. While Lurie only performs on half of these compositions, his sonic vision is both distinctive and eclectic. Bouncing stylistically from downtown funk and progressive soul to chamber jazz, rock, and tribal percussion workouts, Lurie's mood-inducing orchestrations are witty, passionate, and consistently engaging.

Though a legendary figure from his monumental contributions to the clarinet and soprano saxophone's role in jazz, it was the compositions of Sidney Bechet that inspired master saxophonist David Liebman and guitarist John Stowell to dig deep into his catalog to compile and explore this set of rarely heard gems. Each possessing singular voices themselves that have inspired generations of other performers, Liebman & Stowell have created a very personal and intimate duo project celebrating another giant's work, their conversations making for compelling listening.

My Politic is making their first ever studio album "12 Kinds of Lost" at the Sound Emporium in Nashville TN. With a mix of Folk, americana, bluegrass, country, blues and roots music it promises to be their most eclectic effort to date. Appalachian Americana band out of Missouri debuts strongly on their first studio album. Every song hits home in a different way, and they manage to avoid the bro-country laundry list tropes that seem to plague even the most traditional artists to grace the radio waves.

Among all the many Chandos brass recordings, each release having played a major role in the labels successful history, this one may well be the loudest. In the vast acoustic of St Judes Church, London, rendered in surround-sound, and in the largest ensemble format to which it has ever expanded, Onyx Brass, under the energetic direction of John Wilson, brings together four dozen fanfares by fourteen British composers of the past century and a half. Including works by Arnold, Bax, Bliss, Imogen Holst Ketèlbey, and Tippett with numerous premiere recordings, this album is an unmissable celebration of stirring, brilliant, joyous, exciting, varied, sometimes military, and always optimistic music.

Throughout years of travelling, John Andrews has documented his life with his home recordings. His first record, Bit By The Fang, found him living in the amish country of Lancaster, PA. On his latest record, Bad Posture, he waves farewell to Pennsylvania and greets the wooded hills of Barrington, NH. These songs were written slowly and quietly throughout the winter, usually late at night next to the wood stove. It was recorded in Andrews' barn with the doors ajar, welcoming the springtime inviting the outside noises in.

My mom and pops were traveling singers. Remember those wood paneled station wagons? Childhood home. I would pretend to be the Flintstones while staring through holes in the passenger seat floor. Imagine desperate hope as the love offering passed across the pew. The love was real but times were hard. When we settled down in the blue hills of Virginia I remember being scared of two things as a first grader: music and ministry.
