The repertoire is built around main lines, with many innovative suggestions that will cause no end of trouble to your opponents. This volume covers the Caro-Kann, 1...e5 and various minor openings. Conversations involve an exchange - a giving and a receiving. The best conversations occur when the partners are really listening to each other. Jazz is conversation. Here we have five musicians one May day in Toronto, having conversations with each other. This recording was done with no rehearsal and only a few charts. What you're hearing is mostly the first or second takes. This is a rarity to hear "live" undoctored music these days. And what a treat it is to hear bassist John Lamb (former bassist for Duke Ellington) in conversation with his Canadian friends north of the border. The "North of the border" musicians all believe that jazz should be fun and you can hear them enjoying themselves with these wonderful conversations. Their music together builds a wonderful bridge across the border.

This powerful collection of new work inspired by the surrealism of Luis Buñuel and the psychotropic dream world of William Burroughs comprises three remarkable compositions—two stream-of-consciousness tours de force for vibraphone and rhythm section and the sensual piano quintet Obscure Objects of Desire, one of Zorn’s most evocative new works.

This very nicely mastered UK album covers Olivia Newton John's early career, the pre-Grease era. Her voice is crystal clear and in great shape. Her own versions of "If We Only Have Love" & "The Air That I Breathe" are unsurpassed. The album also features two tracks written by Olivia: "Changes" & "Rosewater". Both tracks are stand out recordings showcasing Olivia's early songwriting abilities. Her kindness and love shine on this album. The CD also features great linear notes with a nice biography of Olivia.

Hollywood never learns. Hot on the heels of box-office failures Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Can't Stop the Music, comes the roller-skating Olivia Newton John in Xanadu. This soundtrack is fluff stuff to be sure, but some pearls float amongst the mire. Lead-off "Magic" remains a fine single…

The second symphony of the prize-winning Faroese composer Sunleif Rasmussen (b. 1961) is composed as a life cycle based on the Old Norse myth of the tree of life, Yggdrasil, and carries the title ‘The Earth Anew’. Inspired by natural phenomena and Faroese melodies, Rasmussen is a great believer in a shared Nordic identity, and this world premiere recording bears witness to his strong artistic partnership with Finnish conductor John Storgårds and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
