Joanna Dane, a former O.S.S. operator (forerunner of the CIA), is sent to Tangier by the American authorities to find out who is behind a powerful ring of smugglers that does a booming business in contraband with counterparts in Spain and Italy, and also contribute to a high death rate among the Tangier policemen. She gets work in a waterfront dive owned by "Frisco" and is soon being courted by Van Logan, another American agent but posing as one of the smugglers. Most of the action is set in Tangier, with a brief interlude in Spanish Gibraltar, and the climax is a gun battle between the Tangier civil police and the smugglers on the North African shore of the Mediterranean.

Fly over Africa on the back of a vulture and see the most animal-packed continent with fresh eyes. Arrow-dive with cape gannets among sharks, dolphins and whales as they join the great sardine run. Soar with fish eagles as they discover an S-shaped living island comprised entirely of flamingos, and join them on a spectacular hunt. Fly with kelp gulls as they study the hunting behaviour of the greatest underwater predator of all: the great white shark. On the wings of eagles, fly through the mist-filled Victoria Falls and dive for fish in the mighty Zambezi.

This exciting on-going series covers every aspect of the Luftwaffe in World War II and charts the rise and fall of this mighty force. Each volume makes use of over a hundred rare and valuable photographs, many of them taken by Luftwaffe personnel, to bring history to life and record both the men and the aircraft they flew. Eagles Over Africa and the Mediterranean examines the situation of the Luftwaffe in North Africa between 1940 and 1943. Although the Luftwaffe achieved a great deal of success here, it was hampered by the constant demand for men and machines elsewhere, logistical problems, such as a crippling lack of fuel, and the harsh desert conditions.

Increasingly marginalized since the end of the Cold War, the continent of Africa is struggling to identify both the root causes and possible solutions to the maladies that continue to plague it. The problems read like a laundry list of misrule in the aftermath of decolonization: rampant political corruption, internecine wars, widespread disease, underdevelopment, and economic collapse. In the early 1990s, a group of statesmen, academics, and civil leaders from all over Africa gathered to put together a comprehensive plan to make the continent become less dependent on the rest of the world and prepare it to compete in the new globalizing economy.

This book chronicles the astonishing victories scored by Luftwaffe fighter aces over the Soviet Air Force during battle for the Crimea and during the advance on Stalingrad and describes the activities of the Luftwaffe's fighter-force in its battles over the Russian Front.
