What many of her collectors don't know is that Elizabeth has been a teacher of art for almost as many years as she has been a painter. She is a clear and articulate instructor and can explain what and why she is doing on the canvas at any point in the process. For this reason, she has made a fantastic educational DVD on how she paints the still life in this program. She spent almost a week in our studio, filming three programs to be released in sequence. When she was finished, it was difficult to decide which to release first, as they were all equally stunning. And, all three are equally informative.

The pairing of electric guitarists Bill Frisell and John Scofield had to be one of the most auspicious since John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana. Acoustic bassist Marc Johnson's stroke of genius in bringing the two together on Bass Desires resulted in a sound that demonstrated both compatibility between the guitarists and the distinctiveness of the two when heard in combination. Add drummer Peter Erskine and you had a bona fide supergroup, albeit in retrospect a short-lived one, before Frisell and Scofield would establish their own substantial careers as leaders. The guitarists revealed symmetry, spaciousness, and a soaring stance, buoyed by the simplicity of their rhythm mates. This is immediately achieved on the introductory track, "Samurai Hee-Haw," as hummable, head-swimming, and memorable a melody as there ever has been, and a definite signature sound.

Gilded is the debut offering from California singer/songwriter Jade Jackson. It marks the arrival of a young but sophisticated talent who possesses a keen melodic ear, an innate sense of rhyme and phrasing, and a slow, syrupy sweet, slightly raspy voice to deliver it all in. She's soaked up a wealth of influences, from Hank Williams and Lucinda Williams to Townes Van Zandt, Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams, and more. She has also, especially for such a young person, a deep well of experience from which to draw from and does so with finesse.

Mature and touching music, very much in the jazz tradition, with an "all-star" band assembled by master bassist Marc Johnson. Old friends Joe Lovano, John Scofield and Joey Baron all play beautifully, as does Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, making her ECM debut. Guitar great John Scofield is featured sparingly, but highly effectively, Johnson making good use of the guitarist's creative rapport with Lovano. Organist Alain Mallet plays on two tracks (8 & 10) only. Material, mostly written by Johnson and/or Elias, consists primarily of sumptuous ballads and gorgeous medium tempo pieces.

The music of JADE WARRIOR is somewhat difficult to describe. Among the influences you'll hear in various aspects of JADE WARRIOR's music are rock, jazz, Latin, Japanese, African, ambient, and the kitchen sink (almost literally - there are spoons and an empty whiskey bottle in there somewhere!). It's often melodically simple, and rhythmically complex… or vice versa…

Album released in 1993 "Distant Echoes". The sound is unique. It is variegated also in music. It makes to the groove and there is a clean feeling. It is a sound it is sensual and with the depth…

4.5 stars. Easily becoming one of my favourite Jad Warrior albums. I highly recommend this album to fans of Porcupine Tree, David Sylvian solo, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Flower Kings, Steve Morse-era Deep Purple, Djivan Gasparyan, Dead Can Dance, Elbow, old and modern King Crimson, David Gilmour solo, later period Talk Talk, Michael Brook and Rush(yes…Rush!). Also, throw in the kitchen sink with _world musics_ and the mid-period chamber rock/ambient works of '74-'78 Jade Warrior…
