Capricorn Records released this 2CD retrospective box set called The Swing Time Records Story. Subtitled R&B, Blues & Gospel 1946-1952, the box honors the music released by Jack Lauderdale, who ran Swing Time from Los Angeles, originally as the Down Beat label before changing the name to Swing Beat, before finally settling with Swing Time. The label lasted only six years but it would become the home for Ray Charles, Lowell Fulson, Percy Mayfield, and Jimmy Witherspoon. The box features 50 songs. This was a library disc so since there were stickers and handwriting on the booklet and disc, there are no scans for it, just the audio.

Vocalist Ollie Baxxter explained what the song is about, saying: "As I’m getting older and the band progresses, we’re being put into situations where we have the opportunity to reach a wider audience. "Do we take advantage of those opportunities or stay true to who we are and express our ideals? Eventually you must ask yourself, at what cost does this come? Do I edit myself or do I speak the harsh reality of the creative industry? Puzzle pieces - it takes one piece to either start or finish an entire piece of art."

Otis Clay made most of his best-known records in Memphis during the early '70s, but he's still universally hailed as Chicago's deep soul king. In a city filled to overflowing with legendary blues artists, Clay has become the proud standard-bearer for Chicago's enduring soul tradition. Like so many of his contemporaries, Clay's intense vocal style reflects a gospel background. He made the secular jump in 1965, signing with Chicago's One-derful Records and issuing a series of gospel-tinged soul records that were a lot grittier than the customary Windy City soul sound. Clay inaugurated Atlantic's Cotillion subsidiary in 1968 with a supercharged cover of the Sir Douglas Quintet's "She's About a Mover," produced by Rick Hall in Muscle Shoals shortly before the singer joined forces with Hi Records boss Willie Mitchell.

Donny Hathaway was one of the brightest new voices in soul music at the dawn of the '70s, possessed of a smooth, gospel-inflected romantic croon that was also at home on fiery protest material. Hathaway achieved his greatest commercial success as Roberta Flack's duet partner of choice, but sadly he's equally remembered for the tragic circumstances of his death an apparent suicide at age 33.

While the compilation, which we are presenting here, is often a good thing, the KlangCafé V is more of a quite quiet kind. Here you get the finest lounge music, to which you can really relax or simply stretch out all four of you. In the mainstream, the KlangCafé V is not really one, because their tracklist is home to lots of tracks, which is not necessarily everyone knows. This is, of course, not to say that there are no more known tracks of e.g. Topic, Wincent Weiss, Bastille or Jonas Blue.
