There have been many Huey Lewis & the News hits compilations released overseas, but 2006's simply named Greatest Hits is only the second U.S. comp, following Time Flies, which appeared a decade earlier. At a generous 21 tracks, Greatest Hits is not only five songs longer than Time Flies, but it's a better-chosen collection, too. It may be missing "Bad Is Bad," but it has a stronger selection of early songs, like the wonderful "Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do," plus a better selection of latter-day songs, including Huey's duet with Gwyneth Paltrow on Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'." That doesn't mean the disc is perfect, however – although this does have a stronger representation of their earlier material, it could use just a little bit more, and the non-chronological sequencing is a bit of a headache. That said, this has all the hits and no weak songs, making it the best Huey Lewis & the News compilation yet.

After two mildly successful, vaguely new-wave albums, Bay Area bar band Huey Lewis and the News (several of whose members had backed Elvis Costello on MY AIM IS TRUE) hooked up with mega-selling producer Mike Chapman and released 1983's SPORTS. The album dominated both AM and FM radio throughout 1984, aligning it with THRILLER, PURPLE RAIN, SHE'S SO UNUSUAL, and Madonna's early singles as definitive pop music of its era. SPORTS is genial frat-boy rock at its finest. Singles 'The Heart of Rock and Roll,' 'Heart and Soul,' 'I Want a New Drug,' and 'If This is It' comprise half of the album, and these songs have stood up to repeated listens. Hearing SPORTS today, the album still sounds surprisingly fresh, all the more remarkable when one considers how poorly other hits of the day have fared.

The legendary Mick Jaggar presents the singles Gotta Get a Grip and England Lost, his first solo releases since 2008. Inspired by Jagger's frustration with recent events in the UK and the broader state of the world today, these are politically charged tracks, with the latter featuring British rapper Skepta.

Charley Crockett's blues-infused country singing gives old songs new beginnings on Lil G.L's Jonky Tonk Jubilee, a collection of sixteen songs from the likes of Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn, just to name a few. Crockett pays his dues, honouring the greats with this release and establishing himself as a true-blue country music traditionalist.

Rock star opulence came to an explosive head in 1973 when Alice Cooper and company hit #1 on the U.S. and worldwide charts with Billion Dollar Babies, their sixth and most successful album. Produced by Bob Ezrin, it is also one of the best rock n roll records of all time, and the subsequent tour became their biggest rock production to date. Capitalizing on the albums themes of good-old decadence and horror, the show climaxed with a guillotine execution of Alice. The album and the tour catapulted the band into the worlds preeminent pied pipers of teenage trash culture.

Here is another LP helping from the Keith Jarrett "American" Quartet's last recording session – one that is almost as consistent in quality as its predecessor. The happy-go-lucky groove of the title track perfectly expresses its name, with Jarrett blithely singing along; both Dewey Redman and Charlie Haden get plenty of solo space on Redman's "Gotta Get Some Sleep" and Haden's "Pocket Full of Cherry" (a pun referring to Haden cohort Don Cherry); and Paul Motian remains a marvelously flexible drummer. Moreover, there is another fascinating swatch of Middle Eastern experimentation on "Pyramids Moving."

There's a nicely warming vibe on this album from Keith Jarrett – a sound that's sometimes a bit more laidback and personal, but which is still carried off with familiar associates Dewey Redman on tenor, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums! Most of the tunes are shorter compositions built around gently lyrical lines – somewhat introspective, and a bit less organic than in years past – but in a way that more than makes up for that difference with their own inner beauty. Titles include "Konya", "Rainbow", "Trieste", "Fantasm", "Yahllah", and "Byablue".

The quintessential classic bolero trio, Los Panchos were formed in New York in 1944 by Mexicans Alfredo Bojalil Gil and Chucho Navarro and Puerto Rican Hernando Avilés. The trio's innovative format, which would become a standard of the genre, featured three voices and three guitars, as well as Gil's distinctive use of the Mexican requinto guitar, an instrument he created himself, for all the lead parts. Los Panchos became one of the most famous Latin American musical acts of the 20th century, making their name synonymous with the bolero and exporting the genre all over the world, selling million of records, and appearing in countless films.
