Greatest Ever! Prog Rock beings together some of the very finest progressive rock from the giants of the genre. Incorporating both the classic and the contemporary, this 3CD set boasts bona fide prog masterpieces from Yes, Hawkwind and Rick Wakeman, avant-garde wonders from Aphrodite s Child and The Moody Blues, plus modern tracks from Marillion, Galahad and Twelfth Night to create a brilliantly atmospheric and surprisingly accessible collection for the die-hard fan and the recent convert alike.
This set continues tracing the musical career of the multi talented Henry Glover. Up through 1959 Henry continued his association with King Records writing and producing for King and its Federal and Bethlehem subsidiaries and the first disc and half the second are devoted to these recordings featuring classic performances by Wynonie Harris, Sonny Thompson, Moon Mullican, Lulu Reed, Tiny Bradshaw, The Five Royales, The Checkers, Linda Hopkins, Bill Doggett and others. It also features covers of Glover's King songs including Ray Charles spectacular version of Drown In My Tears, Teresa Brewer's improbable cover of Wynonie Harris's Lovin' Machine, Johnny Burnette's version of The Delmore Brothers' Blues Stay Away From Me and others.
The title Paris Days, Berlin Nights is a little misleading. One might expect French songs about morning-after regrets and German ones about living cynically hedonistically, but this collection goes way beyond that. It includes songs about war, abandonment, the indifference of time to human suffering, and gritty street life, with music by Piazzolla and Polish-Jewish composer Chava Alberstein in addition to the expected Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, and Jacques Brel.
